We were offered a 1987 SunLINE Sportster for an insanely low price.
We currently have an 8 cylinder F-150 with 8' bed. Will this truck be able to handle the camper? I am having problems finding a wet or dry weight for the it. I cam post a couple photos if it helps. I do not know much about it. We are going to look at it on Sunday. If there are any questions we should be asking, please share. Thanks in advance. |

Pictures would be good if can post them! Good-luck! -------------------- . . . .

There should be a sticker on the camper somewhere that tells you its weight. It may be inside in a cupboard or outside on the wall somewhere.
You could have a look at some new campers online and pick one with a similar floor plan. The weights should be similar too. Ask if the camper is designed for a long box or short box. If its for a short box it may not fit your truck. The front bumpers on the camper need to contact the front of the box on your truck. This should stop it from sliding forward and keep the center of gravity in front of your rear axle. If it is a short box camper then you could try blocking it so you get contact with the front of the truck's box but be carefull about where the center of gravity lines up. For stability driving, the center of gravity should be just in front of the rear axle. The center of gravity should be marked on the side of the camper so take your tape measure with you when you go look at it. Measure your truck ahead of time for comparison. Why won't a short box camper fit on a long box truck? Well, many short box campers make use of the extra space on the sides and put in storage compartments towards the rear of the camper. they're a nice extra but these compartments can block you from putting the camper fully forward in the truck bed. This isn't always the case but something to look for. Hope it works out for you. |
