my newly aquired used northland camper has a switch saying water pump. when i turn it on i hear the pump running and the faucet runs water. can i leave the pump on when the water is on or will it burn up the pump. im thinking it might recirculate.

It should turn off when you shut off faucet. If not you may have a leak somewhere. Otherwise you can leave it on, although I am in the habit of turning mine off when not needed.
Newer pumps turn on and off on demand.
My old Western Wilderness pump had to be turned on and off.
If it turns off after turning the water off, you have the new style pump.
