I purchased this early model Vanguard camper for my 1958 Chevy Apache. I had to raise the bed 2" to accommodate the cab-over. A neighbour thought it was too heavy for my 1/2 ton longbox truck. I can't seem to find any information about this model or it's weight. The truck seemed to carry it well although I didn't go far. Any guesses on the weight? It's about 1" longer than the box and I can almost close the tailgate.
I'm also trying to figure out what's the best tie-downs to secure the camper for long trips on my stepside. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are appreciated. |

Just wondering if you might be from Canada as your camper is approximately I'm also trying to figure out what's the best tie-downs to secure the camper for long trips on my stepside. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are appreciated. a 1967 68 maybe. Vanguard was made in Richmond BC Canada in those years. I have a very rare pop up model in great shape . I have no great amount of info on these but do have the Manufacturing plate and date still intact on front passenger side of camper. At this time I have it on a 1979 F150 but I did add extra leafs to springs. (2 to each side , I love the fiberglass tops on these units and a good reason I don,t have any rot or leaks. gxood look and yours makes for a cool combo. |

On second viewing of this unit I would say from the window style that it is pre 1967 and older then my pop up ..Could very well be 64 to 65 model. It is a keeper and one to restore for sure. And also I have some great old advertisements on trucks from Mechanix Illustrated and Popular Science books. I sell them for $10.00 each if anyone is interested .. They had some cool write ups on campers during those years also. I'm also trying to figure out what's the best tie-downs to secure the camper for long trips on my stepside.
