Hi everyone. I'm not new to camping but new to TC. I am semi retiring soon and looking forward to some time off. I need to get a truck and camper. I've read alot here and think I understand gvw , axle weight, cog etc. I am trading my jeep and only going to be able to get a regular size truck f150 or 1500. Preferably a quad or crew cab. So far I have found a used palomino 1200 in my area that seems decent. My real question I guess is any of you guys in the 150 / 1500 trucks what camper works for you or what has been the handling results if any? Looking at specs f 150 seems to offer highest payload but on a lighter popup or hi lo TC like the bronco 1200 I think it would ride ok on any standard size truck with no added suspension options. Dry weight listed was 1300. Thanks for any advice. Jim.
Truck camper magazine says this about the 1200.
Palomino SS-1200: dry weight, 1,614 pounds + 16 gallons fresh, 133.4 pounds + 20 pound full propane tank, 20 pounds + battery, 65 pounds + stuff, 500 pounds = 2,332.4 pounds.
This is without a hot water heater.
You could prune a few 100 lbs. but would still be solidly in 3/4 ton truck category.
