Favorite Truck Camper(s): Lance
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: 98 Chevy 2500 Silverado
Type of Tiedowns used: Happijac
Truck and Camper Setup: all of the above - hopefully soon

sorry to sound like a broken record.

Can any vehicle repair shop install tiedowns/airshocks or do I need to go to an RV dealer?

Can any RV dealer do it, or should I find one that specializes or at least carries truck campers? (5 RV dealers in area, NONE carry truck campers)

Can my 98 Chevy 3/4 ton 2500 w/ factory tow package handle my Lance Lite 815 AND my approx. #2500 horse trailer?
Truck Payload capacity is 1700#
camper weight, with tanks full, is 1800#
GVWR for truck is over 10,000lbs

Do I need a Class V hitch to do this or will my Class III with an extension work?

I just got the camper- traded in a 30 Ft Travel Trailer, it was a monster! I wanted something I could pull the horse trailer and go down the road with. Before I make the modifications - 8 ply tires, air shocks, and tiedowns, does this sound like something that will work or should I sell the camper and start over? Don't really want to sell the truck - it's paid for. biggrin.gif

thanks in advance for your help

Favorite Truck Camper(s): 1990 Scamper
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: 2003 Dodge 2500 quad cab, long box, single axle, 4wd, 5.9 cummins
Type of Tiedowns used: none
Truck and Camper Setup: 9.5 scamper, bath and A/C, extended hitch , class 4 modified to pull 24 foot trailer. 13.8 mpg while towing.

I currently have a 9 1/2 foot camper and we pull a 24 foot race car trailer. Due to the camper is so close to the trailer we extended the tongue that the ball bolts to. The hitch is a class four and the trailer weighs in around 6200 lbs. If I was to do this again I would go with a class 5 hitch and the extension if needed for the turning radius . I would say your truck should be fine....
