Well I must say this could be like asking what's better, Ford or Chevy. There are many choices and levels of cost thankfully, but for me this time I will be going with a new set of colorful melamine. I have always preferred a hard surface non leak dinner plate for the types of food I typically eat while camping. The combination of these quality's along with the light weight nature of the product and lets not forget the fun color selection convinced me to upgrade my kitchen ware when I pick up my new Arctic Fox this fall. By the way, now might be a good time to make this purchase since while shopping last night I noticed many end of summer sales with 50% reductions on this product. Additionally very large serving platters are typically offered in matching colors for those times when the chief wants to unload the entire grill at once and present the fare to his awaiting family and friends during those fun summer vacations. Add a set of 8 shatter resistant red wine glasses from Costco and you will have the perfect place setting. Happy dining!

Pretty much set on the truck but still looking at campers but tending towards North Stars. |
I would not use the melamine in the micro-wave oven. A quick google search will provide you with information on why not.
We looked at the melamine but finally decided on 4 place Correll set because of the instability of the melamine in a microwave. Weight difference was negligible. |

I don't have any dishes, I but the heaviest paper plates in bulk at Costco. I have a few old cups.
I use cast iron skillets, which don't need to washed. I am a bachelor and keep cleaning and cooking to the basics. -------------------- 2011, F-350,CC,DRW,6.7,4WD

No worries skyhammer, I too did the basic thing for many years. All through my teens and twenty's all I did was work and ride off road motorcycles in the desert. Back then riding every weekend was all that was important to me, those were some of the best years of my life.

We use plastic and porcelain plates. I've found that using a sharp knife on a plastic plate buggers them up, but the wife likes the coordinated colors so we do both.
I like fresh perked coffee in the am so we have a Cabelas percolator, not cheap but makes good coffee. Other than breakfast, we do most of our cooking on a fire (hardwood coals) on a folding mesh cooking rack (from Wallyworld) Bugers, steals and stews get cooked on the open fire. Tastes better. |
