I have been looking at buying a flatbed truck and eventually put on a truck camper. I am only interested in dually trucks. I wonder what the longest flatbed I should consider? I haven't looked too much but I see that there is at least 1 truck camper mfr that makes flatbed campers. Will any truck camper go on a flatbed?

QUOTE(mzclaus77 @ Jun 13 2012, 08:43 AM) I have been looking at buying a flatbed truck and eventually put on a truck camper. I am only interested in dually trucks. I wonder what the longest flatbed I should consider? I haven't looked too much but I see that there is at least 1 truck camper mfr that makes flatbed campers. Will any truck camper go on a flatbed? Thats a tough question to answer. I was, at one time, looking at using a chssis cab truck to haul an Arctic Fox 1140. But the CA (cab to axle) measurement is different on the chassis cab than on a standard pickup and the center of gravity of the truck camper would have ended up behind the rear axle. I opted for an F350, DRW, supercab, 4X4 with a gas engine. This combination gave me a bit over 6,000 lbs of load capacity and the CA measurement was perfect. I will have the standard box removed and a service body mounted. This will provide much needed outside storage space. Is there any special reason you want to go with a flat bed, which is a chassis cab truck? Dave |

Another consideration is that truck campers are designed for short bed or long bed pickups. A long bed pick has an 8 foot bed. A chassis cab truck is meant to have a 9 foot bed. While anything is possibe, using a chassis cab really complicates things. Dave |

I have flatbed camper. I purchased a Chevy Silverado 3500. The dealer bought back the box which left me with my spare tire and holder, my hitch and all wiring. You lose that when buying a chassis. I then had an aluminum flatbed made for it. I have the Northstar Ameican Ho flatbed camper.

I would suggest you to take an advice from a person who has been in the field for years and is good in all the technical know how, as it would be really helpful for you in getting the exact thing that will fit your needs.
