I have some significant rust spots on my camper legs. Anybody have any suggestions to get it off before I repaint it?

Right now I’m using a Milwaukee hand drill with wire brushes… and it seems way underpowered….it’s taking too long and I’m struggling to get to the unrusted bear metal…..

I’m positive I’m missing the obvious, so let me know what you think!

I've take to using "Rust Converter" or "Rust Reformer" that actually wants light rust to chemically convert it to a coating that can be pained or left black. Spray and brush on.

I've wondered the same thing when repairing the lower corner of our pop-up. I've never seen that specification for any TC. I'm sure hard sides will take more weight with the height of the side panels.

QUOTE(Viperoy @ Sep 7 2022, 07:16 PM)
I currently have my third truck camper—a Lance 1172. I’ve had this camper 3 years. I have an issue, sometimes, where the propane supply to my refrigerator is lost when we move from one campground to the next—this might be a 200 mile move or a400 mile move. When I get to my new destination or go into the camper an hour or two into the drive, the fridge is beeping and has lost the propane connection. Once I turn the fridge off and back on, it reconnects and will run without issue if I am parked for days. However it may do this several days in a row or sporadically if traveling. Any ideas?
*

Is it an automatic safety valve? Check with Lance or the refrigerator mfg. I was told to turn off the propane tank valve when traveling.

Some have a screw dead center on the spring and diaphragm but, I would replace it with new. They do go bad and it is a life safety item.

As Fuel cost swell to $5/ gallon in the mid-Atlantic we have postponed our departure until at least price stabilization. I dream and talk to everybody about our past travels and future dreams.
A question often asked as I discuss deep woods, plains, desert boondocking is "Do you carry a weapon?"...Well....Do you?
What is your biggest fear?

We have a standard 3" black water Female (bayonet ?) x male garden hose that we use on the gray tank to drain in the wheeled portable tank when needed. I suppose you couldd use it the other direction with a washing machine hose (FXF).

We have the same type of jacks. I cut a slot in a deep well socket to fit over the drive shaft with pin in slot. Adapt socket to battery drill and off (or on) you go! We don't have a height problem but your solution sounds best. I suggest fastening your adapter to the tripods and having a method to verify full jack tube insertion to your stop plate. Fortunately we still have labels on the jacks to show full insertion to the trip-pods

Do you laser/GPS focus (Hunter) on a particular spot like that necessitated in the East US?
OR maybe, Can you survey multiple spots before picking one (Gatherer) like in the Western US National Forests / BLM?

It sounds like you have a great Idea. I picture aircraft cable for cantilever support. PVC decking is really nice but heavy if weight is an issue. Hydraulic assist closing/dampening may be possible too.
Please post pictures of this cool mod!

I'd give it the grab and wiggle test. Can't tell from the picture about ground clearance, be cautious of off road dry wash or grade changing driveway tail drag. Do you have a dust / rain cover? Otherwise looks "ready to wheel"!

Fans are limited, good, low energy cooling. Often misters are employed at restaurants / sidewalks mostly in more arid parts of the country in cities. Another suggestion, if you really have big batteries, is an inverter to run your onboard ac unit.

QUOTE(JADE RACING @ Apr 26 2019, 01:42 PM)
Hi to all reading this as we are getting ready to launch on a trip from southern Ontario to Vancouver Island. Our proposed route will be across southern Ontario and cross the border into Mich.@ Sarnia and thru upper Mich. along the bottom of Lake Superior to Duluth Min. Intend on running along the border states til exiting into Alberta, to visit family then on thru the mountains to Vancouver and across by ferry to the island. Has any one had this sort of route in the past whom might give pointers?  Thanks for reading. Eric

We are in MD too and often go to DE shopping. We paid cash for used TC and are not aware of MD licensing / Title needs. If in your situation and absence of title, I would offer bill of sale and pictures to the bank as proof of ownership.
NOTE the following is from a 2013 post.

Which states require the slide-in truck camper to be registered? Here is the current list:

Idaho
Indiana
Mississippi
Nebraska
Oregon
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Utah
Washington

So which states require truck campers to be titled? Here is the current list. Note that some of these states differ from what’s required for registration:

Sounds like a hand full! I always start with information plates. Make, model, manufacturer to research. Then find it best to start with necessary (roof, structure) and work it to completion. Then features and convenience items lastly luxury items. Come up with a plan / finish vision. Post pictures and specific questions for best response.

QUOTE(Twitchy @ Mar 24 2021, 12:00 PM)
Hello,
I've got an old Edison cab over truck box camper. It's been a number of years since it was last used and I'm hoping to bring it back into use this spring. I took a look today and there's not a single sign of a rodent in it. there might be one spot in the roof that's got some evidence of a past leak so I know I'll need to reseal the roof seams. (Advice on this would be appreciated as well.) My current concern is to do with the electrical, propane, and water tanks.

How do I test them/assess them and what should I be looking for? The camper has a propane stove top and I think the fridge might run off that as well? There's a sink which may or may not have a hot water tap. I think I've located the breaker box.

I can come back later with pictures if that would help. I'd like to use it over the summer with my bumper pull 2 horse trailer so I'm still trying to figure out how much truck I'll need to handle both. Right now its on the back of an old 1970(?) Chev that's dead in the water but at least I can tow the whole unit closer to the house to work on it once the snows gone.

If anyone has advice or recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

We tried using the jacks after basic leveling to firm up the sway on one trip. Haven't bothered since. In fact as we are close on weight, we'll be leaving them at the shop next trip. Rear visibility will be better too. We do a good job leveling with 2x8 tire shims, carpenters eye and levels in cab.

Do you drop your Jacks overnight?
Is the boat like sway more significant with a slide out?

Seems a rubber mat is the thing for the camper. Having an older truck not sprayed, we remove the plastic bed liner used for general hauling and install a rubber mat (and house battery) before sliding under camper.
