We have our pre-owned pickup camper on its maiden voyage and were not 50 miles from home when we noticed one of the rear tie downs was missing. When we checked the others, all of them were loose too. We ended up removing the second rear tie down since it was going to loosen and fall off anyway. We tightened the front ones using wrenches and the lock nuts butthe camper still shifts. any idea what we are doing wrong? We are using happijac tie downs the attach to rear bumper.

Do you have a bedliner in your bed and if so what kind is it, If its one of those hard plastic ones I would say that is PART of the problem. A rubber mat liner is what I have and have found it to work well. Also I would think you might want to tighten those tiedowns a little tighter.

Let me suggest: Tractor Supply has 4 ft w x every how long you want (8Ft) ¾ in horse mat made from shredded tires. I would get it, lay in your bed ( no need to glue or screw down, its not going anywhere as it fairly heavy) and set your camper down on it, save wear on the bed, easy on the camper as it absorbs some of the bumps and does not fade, been running mine 5 years.
Its clear your camper is shifting and moving on you, the horse mat will end that! |
