Favorite Truck Camper(s): Still deciding
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: 2016 GMC3500dualyy4x4diesel
Type of Tiedowns used: Torklift with Fastguns
Truck and Camper Setup: The plan will utilize a 3500 GMC with a 11 or 12' TC with a full compliment of Torklift hitch components and tie downs. Stable loads if needed will be installed.

Some time ago my wife and I decided on our long term plan for the type of rv's we will be using during retirement. Owning a purpose built new model truck will serve as the work horse. Pairing the truck with a large pull trailer and a full size truck camper will complete the package. I can envision there will be times when taking the trailer would be preferable over the camper simple because of the available room and the lack of need for a boat. Fishing will become my main activity during retirement. The TC combo should give me the perfect combination of mobility and comfort all while allowing me to bring the boat. I believe this combination of rigs will address all of my needs with the least amount of maintenance and cost. We will soon become the proud owners of a 2017 Arctic Fox 1140db. The first run of the new 1140's will start in August. The dealer has agreed to store my camper till my fall vacation in early October. The plan is to head up to Oregon with just the truck and boat and pick up the camper. The first few days will be spent in Oregon testing out the new rig while remaining close to the factory in the event service is needed, after that we will start working south towards home. Like many of you we spent months deciding on the brand of camper and quite honestly there was no clear cut winner. The 12 foot Northstar was viewed as the best built camper but with it's narrow width and lack of slide I felt it might become a little cramped. With this being said this model for many of you would be a great choice, I just simply needed more room. The two largest Lance products could have worked and I tried to make that happen, however in the end the price and the cabinet design convinced me to keep looking. The 1160 Eagle Cap had a great layout with a beautiful exterior finish, huge tanks and great colors but this unit was by far the most money, most weight and unfortunately still uses a slide assembly that I viewed as unreliable. The Arctic Fox caught my eye in the very beginning and became the chosen brand. For my needs I felt the overall cost along with the HD slide and all the features made it the best choice. The fact that I could delete some standard items while choosing only the options that I wanted was also a bonus. Apache RV so far has been very helpful, there willingness to store my camper till I can come up along with there policy to include battery's and a starter package consisting of water and sewer hoses was just icing on the cake. I had wanted to use for the first time Life Line batter'y and this was also no problem, they will simply credit me for there battery's and install mine. I will be doing a complete review of the truck as well as the tie down components and of coarse the camper in October. Stay tuned.

Congratulations on the new camper. You made a wise decision buying the camper in Oregon vrs. California, you just saved $3-5k by avoiding California's sales tax.
Avoiding the sales tax paid for my Stable loads, Tork Lift mounts,Fast Guns, Air bags, extension hitch, wireless camera etc.
I bought mine directly from the factory in Bend. Since I have a second home 30 miles away, I was able to watch them build it and make changes I wanted along the way.
So far, I have used my camper exclusively for fishing while towing my jet boat. I am right at 18,000lbs going down the road.

Skyhammer, that sounds like a very nice rig. I have been away from Fords for a long time, I think the 6.7 is a diesel, if so that sounds like a huge payload on a 350. My new GMC is basically the same as your Ford and there is no way I could haul a triple slide Host. I will have to be very careful with my single slide 1140. Time and a scale will determine what rides in the boat. Since you live up there can you recommend a good bass or salmon lake near Portland. I will be in the area for a few days and would love to wet a line. Also, what are the regs for out of sate 1 week fishing permits. Some states require a SS number in order to obtain a licence if your a non resident.

I have weighed my setup many times( Oregon leaves most of their scales open on weekends so you can weigh your setup as many times as you want for free).
With just the camper, I am under GVWR. With the boat, I go 300lbs over, which is my book is OK.
My front axle weight is 4550lbs, Max for front axle is 5940lbs. I have a front hitch with cargo carrier that carries 6 gallons of water, 5 gallons of gas and a 2000 watt Honda generator.
Rear axle weight with out boat is 8700lbs, with boat(depending upon how much stuff I have in the boat, the weight varies from 9000 lbs to 9300 lbs. Ford rates the rear axle as 9000lbs, but Dana rates it as 10,000lbs.
I am pretty well maxed out, especially if I fill the 70 gallon fresh water tank, which I rarely do.
There aren't many lakes near Portland and I don't fish for green carp (bass).
Now if you take hwy97 South, you will pass by 50 so lakes.
My house is in LaPine and there are 35 lakes within 35 miles. In October, the salmon fishing is over, the salmon have spawned in the lakes. However, October is the time for trophy Browns and Rainbows. I fish Paulina and East Lake, about 20 miles East of LaPine.
They sit at 6500' and in October, the temps can be single digits. Most of the lakes I fish are 200+' deep and crystal clear.
All you need for fishing license is your drivers license.
