Hi,

I am very new to the forum and have not seen any references to the Williams and Flagstaff areas of Arizona. As far as back country camping goes, I have always felt that the Kaibab and Coconino National Forests were some of the best spots to go. I have been camping up there for 20+ years and love it. My brother usually stays up there for two to three months through the summer and I usually get up there for a few weeks anyway. There are so many spots to camp and many are quite close to town. It would be fun to know where other like minded folks are staying so we could get together for the occasional meetup for coffee etc. So are there a few of you that frequent that area?
Please help.

Hi,

I would like to take a golf cart with me when camping but their is nowhere to carry it pulling the fifth wheel. I have a small trailer that I could hook behind the trailer to carry the golf cart on. I wonder if I can double tow in all the states.

Hi,

If we take the battery off, we have no signal or position lights and let’s not mention that the auxiliary brake system needs towed-vehicle electric power to run. Any ideas on how to supply electricity to the lights and brake system while isolating the ESC system? Is it a good idea to disconnect the ESC system? Your ideas and suggestions will be appreciated!
Please help.

Hi,

Having towed a caravan in the UK for 25 years, I quite like the idea of doing do in the US next august for a couple of weeks around lake Michigan. I've done the RV and found it quite come training when going into towns. Does anyone know of any companies who hire vehicle/trailer combo's around Chicago or even just the tow vehicle so I could sort out the trailer myself?
Please help.

Hi,

In one of the items I trade, there are some bizarrely timed price updates.I suspect a bot and I am wondering if this behaviour is worth reporting and how to go about reporting it.
What is happenning is that three different orders are being updated within seconds of each other, each at identical prices.
To give an example, I might have a sell order priced at 500.04 ISK. Three separate orders will then be updated at 499.91 ISK each, within 2 seconds of each other. The timestamps will show for example 89d 59m 26s, 89d 59m 24s and 89d 59m 22s.
I will then undercut the price, and a few minutes later the same orders will again be updated with a new identical price, again within 2 seconds of each other.
Is it possible to update orders so quickly without some type of automatic script ?

Please help.
Thanks!

Hi,

I searched the post extensively but could not find any relatively new post talking about boondocking. We are family of four with kids age of 11 and 13 and enjoy hiking and seeing wildlife. We plan to visit in late June for 2 weeks. Other than reserving camping spaces in the Denali national park, we are planning just drive around and boondock as much as we can. People talked about the Milepost in this forum and I want to know if that will help in my plannings. We will of course stay in commercial camps for fill up etc. First time RV driver too!
We plan to drive to Homer, Seward, then go up to Denali, Fairbanks, Chena hotspring, then Delta, Tok back to Anchorage. Is that too much to ask for in two weeks?

Please help.
Thanks!

Hi,

A while back it blew a gale most of the night at a boonie location I was camped. I was parked cross wind. In the morning calm I discovered 3 truck camper rigs had hove too on the lee side of my rig during the night. I said to myself, “Self, I know your rig drives like a lardass on the road but this is ridiculous”. Each one of them thanked me for the shelter when they broke camp.

HI,

New here but been sucking the site up since finding it. I got here chasing the 4x4 Van idea, but then funding became an issue. I have a cap/shell on my Chevy 2500 CCSB D/A 2007 Classic. It came off a previous generation Chevy truck and fits OK. So I have been digging thru the showoff your cap mods thread and getting lots of ideas and thinking no need for the van b/c there are great ways to use the platform I have.

I am at the point now of deciding whether or not I add a ladder rack to my current setup with minor fitment issues, or punt and get a ladder racked contractor cap with a barn door rear and no tailgate. The contractor cap is AL and has Steel boxes and has the side tool storage but it cuts into the living space. So I would ask what you guys feel is a more secure setup, but also which would be more comfortable. The primary mission would be to sleep myself and one or two dogs while out hunting or testing for up to a weekend, but needs to be secure yet ventilated if I leave the dogs during the day for any reasons.

I am asking those who have done it b/c I want to be cost effective, thus no hotels. Fundamentally I am not opposed to do either at this point and I have located both the ladder rack and contractor cap locally on CL. I want the top storage so I can get down the road to a RTT, when I can get funding together.

Along the same lines, and no matter what option, what are you guys doing for showers when you backwoods camp in your rigs. I ask b/c at tests I am around a lot of hotel dwellers, who have lots more cash than me.

Please help.
Thanks!

HI,

For all those who sometimes use a paid camp ground/RV park. Has it ever been an issue to unload

your camper at your camp site and drive off to go explore the area. Is this generally a non issue or do

some places not allow it

any idea..?

Please help.

Hello,
I've had camper vans and trailers and I'm now seriously considering a truck camper as I've decided I want access to all the forest roads in the national forests and BLM land that I can get at.
I'd like to use my present tow vehicle, Nissan 4x4 short bed/crew cab. And I was wondering how long a slide-in I could use as the bed is really about 5' with the tail gate up?

Please help.
Thanks!

HI,

I am considering a new 10.2 SE EX that I will live in during the week when I am working. I'll be in Northern Virginia, where it gets fairly cold and very humid depending on the month.

Would really appreciate any feedback from those of you that spend a lot of time in your campers about your experiences.

From what I can gather from reading the forums and YouTube, Northern Lite is prob one of the few TC's built to handle long term camping. Seems there are lots of issues with slides or construction on other brands.

Please help.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am installing a Hellwig sway bar on my F250 which has Airlift 5000 air bags. My question is: do I adjust the sway bar while the bags are deflated, partially inflated or fully inflated. I assume it does make a difference?

Please help.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am looking to get a truck and a camper. This has been a dream of mine for a few years now and I am finally able to make it happen. I have been looking into toyota tacoma, f150, and Chevy Silverado. I am still not sure which is best, diesle or gas, automatic or manual. I want to hual a camper and be able to get almost anywhere. I am planning on being an active camper, so long miles and possible rough terrain. Basically I want to have a truck that can be reliable and able to tackle most scenarios. I don't think I need a super heavy duty truck, but instead of talking to truck enthusiasts id rather talk to the community that is doing what I want my truck to be able to do. This is also my first truck that I'll be purchasing?
any idea?

Please help.
Thanks!

Hi,
We are interested in seeing truck campers that are used and the dealers here do not usually carry them.
Where is the best place to search to find used truck campers for sale?
We are not buying now, but learning.

Please help.

Hi,
I need to get new tires for my 1995 Diesel F350 to haul around a 1996 Lance Squire 8000.

Which tires are the best for me to get? The guy who sold me the truck recommended Cooper 16 ply, and someone I know who lives in his truck camper suggested Class F tires.

And should I get road tires or all-terrain tires? I understand you get more miles to the gallon with road tires, and I'm not sure how much off-roading I'll do since the camper is 10' 9", and the truck only has 2 wheel drive; although the guy who sold me the truck said that cable chains should act as a substitute for 4 wheel drive.

Please help.
Thanks!

A former TC camper owner here, back for another round. Bottom line, when we became a family of five, our 10.5 foot Alpenlite/Western RV camper became impractical. Doable, but it was tough on the middle child who was too claustrophobic to handle the over-dinette bunk, and chose the floor with a foam mattress instead. Hazardous duty, when dad came down from the cabover to use the aft toilet in the night! We switched to a 30 foot bunkhouse fifth wheel, which is really luxurious in comparison. It's night and day easier to set-up and break camp (we always unloaded the camper if in a location for more than one night, in order to have transportation without packing camp), hauls much nicer than our high-profile, two ton slide-in and is vastly more comfortable with the the whole family aboard (we can even bring friends along), and cooking is much more pleasurable. Well, I digress; not really trying to make thread on why a towable has been better than a TC for us. With one kid in college now, I realize some trips could work well in a TC with the four of us. More importantly, my desire to access back-country camping opportunities still exists. Once we had the Alpenlite dialed-in with air bags, a Torklift tie down system and other niceties, reality set in that it was too heavy and sway-prone to comfortably take it on many of the unimproved roads/trails we had hoped to. Clearly, any TC in our future needs to be much better suited for back country access. I have already debated the pop- vs. hard-side quandary, and hard-side wins. Even a hard side pop up like an Alaskan would be questionable, but worthy consideration. Light weight is the main criteria, along with mandatory bathroom, even if it's just a port-a-potty. So likely a 9 footer based on what I can see (I'm not worried about one foot of overhang, even two).

I'm a little frustrated. I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 Dually that I have used with my Lance camper for years. So I already have the swing brackets for the front jacks. I just purchased a new 2017 3500 Dually, and the fender flairs are wider than the 2001. Wide enough, that I can't back the truck under without damage. I tried to day for the first time, I had the passenger side touching the jack, and only had 1/16 inch gap max, on the driver side. I called and stopped by the lance factory on the way home and they say that there are no alternative swing brackets that help the situation. MY BS alert went off. I can believe that a truck design that has been around for years (I'll bet that the 15, 16 models are the same). What swing brackets are people using with their late model dodge?
