Ready to pull the trigger on a new truck camper, buying out of state so no sales tax. My question is will I need to title it and pay taxes in my state before a lender will finance it ?

Thanks...

Thanks for the reply, I'm in Maryland, My bank says they need a title for collateral. Did you finance your TC ? Does the bank/lender need some kind of document to hold until paid off ?

Thanks Bill

Put 10% deposit when ordered to secure build. Drove back up 5 weeks later to pick up and pay balance. Did all paperwork at dealer and got the title mailed to me a few weeks later. My guess it would be just like an auto loan their name on title until PIF then it's yours. Good luck.

We are in MD too and often go to DE shopping. We paid cash for used TC and are not aware of MD licensing / Title needs. If in your situation and absence of title, I would offer bill of sale and pictures to the bank as proof of ownership.
NOTE the following is from a 2013 post.

Which states require the slide-in truck camper to be registered? Here is the current list:

Idaho
Indiana
Mississippi
Nebraska
Oregon
Rhode Island
Tennessee
Utah
Washington

I bought my Wolf Creek 890 the same way you did. Saved over 3? grand, maybe more. My camper was a little less than yours. My question to you...did the dealer send you a form that said you owed taxes to the state of California for your purchase? It was from an agency I had never heard of. I just put it away and ofcourse didn't answer it. The state actually tried to tax me for a purchase made in another state.

This souldn't surprise me.....but next tax season I might have to hire a tax attorney.
