I have a host mckinley truck camper which has a listed center of gravity of 34" I believe. Dry weight on the tag of the camper is listed at 3412LBS.
I need a truck that is able to carry this weight what are your suggestions??? TIA |

How about considering "ALL weight related" stuff you'll be taking along with you on the road? The more you haul, tow, load, invite along the more your truck will squat and say enough! ! ! |

I am in the same situation really. Although I haven't purchased either one yet, I have decided on the Lance 1181 - dry weight 3650 according to mfr. Still haven't nailed down the truck I want (dodge or chevy) I have learned from talking to Lance dealer and various truck dealerships that I need the 3500 long bed dualie. Hope that helps you some. I know this is like asking "what's your favorite team" but anyone care to toss in some pros and cons on the dodge or chevy? Chevy has scored highest on overall performance under load but just doesn't feel as smooth to me as the Dodge. I haven't driven either under load so I could use some advice.

QUOTE(Rilley @ Jun 23 2009, 05:40 PM) I'm on my second Chevy Dooley (2002 and 2006) with the Duramax-Allison option and have nothing but great things to say about the trucks. I've owed Fords along with Chevys over the years hauling truck campers in the beds but with the Duramax-Allison option you really can't go wrong with the Chevy. Both of my Chevy doolies were used (both under 10K miles when purchased) so I was able to get around the often complained about high entry price Chevy trucks typically bring when new. I know quite a few current Dodge and Ford owners and after a couple of beers they've admitted I'm better equipped overall (especially with the Tow/Haul feature when ascending or decending steep grades) then they. When fully loaded with the truck camper (5K lbs), hitch extension and 16' open car trailer with toys loaded and in place (7K lbs) I'm just over 19K lbs gross. I've driven many miles without a trace of serious problems many other brands have found when under heavy use (ie: driveline failures). In the end, I'll most likely buy another new-used Chevy with the Duramax-Allison combo if the General is still making them when the time comes and I don't move up to the Gulfstream Supernova 6331 Super Class C by that time. Good luck in your truck search efforts and let us know what and why you decided after you've finalized your purchase..... Attached image(s) |

No airbags needed. I may do that in the future. The truck handles fine. Will be using happijack brackets and turn buckles. |

Bought my 2005 Silverado 2500HD Duramax 4X4 with just under 20k miles. It has never failed me yet and the truck is all stock. I can't imagine if I ever decided to unleash the beast inside it with the aftermarket add-ons. My friend has a 3500 dually and the only difference is stability. Power and suspension have seemed very similar. I hope this helps. -------------------- |
