Mainly boondocking is done among RVers. Some people say they are boondocking if they have electric but don't have water and sewer hookups. Others say to boondock one has to be out in the boonies. I say boondocking is camping without any hookups - no electric, water or sewer.

Ya he's boon-docking even if he made his own electricity by way of either solar panels or generator. Plus I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to build a hull and put an outboard on that camper |

I like to boondock. To me it means no hook ups and in the mountains or wilderness some where. I have a solar panel on the top of my bigfoot camper which helps. I was in Alaska, the Yukon, Alberta and Montana this year and bush camped every where. My favorites were the Yukon and Montana.

We boondock throughout the western US and Baja California, and is the reason we bought our pop-up. We especially love ridge top camping for a sunset and sunrise! Occasionally we end up in a campground with hookups for a night, but that is a pretty rare event.

I always thought Boondocking was Free Camping and without hookups sometimes with permission one can find a electric hookup and if it's free then it still qualifies as Boondocking.

Boondocking is campng in a remote location without any hookups. Dry Camping is camping without any hookups but not in a remote location. For example, camping in a Walmart parking lot without hookups is Dry Camping. Camping in the desert with no civilization and coyotes as your neighbors is Boondocking.
Boondocking is a form of Dry Camping but Dry Camping is not Boondocking... The picture above?.... Definitely Boondocking. |

While in the past I used your definition, in my travels as of late it seems the term has come to mean Free Camping as seen here <http://www.boondocking.org/> I do prefer your example though! -------------------- Nancy & Dave go camping!
