Hi.
We have, a new to us, camper on our 04 Chevy Silverado 1500, we have encountered a lot of sway and the suspension is off. What kind of shocks should we replace with? and would we still need air lift bags?

Thanks for any assistance that can come our way smile.gif

Without knowing spec.'s of trk.& camper I would surmize that an overload condition is rearing it's head. A good quality gas shock would slow down some of the sway and a set of air assist air bags would help with the sway also,BUT if an overload condition is present it will only multiply your problems. WEIGHT is the downfall as no additions can increase the load carrying compacity of the manufacturer's design. All sort of senarios can be proposed BUT it all costs to upgrade for yours and others safety.

I run and have run on my Jeeps, trucks and cars for about the past 15 years:

Rancho RS 9000 XL adjustable shocks

I would not run anything else on anything I own.

I have over 5000 lbs of truck camper sitting in the bed of my truck.

Rancho shocks (as above)

TorkLift StableLoads

Hellwig Big rear sway bar.

That is all I have done, there little justification for more. There is little if anything you can to to change the GW of your rig and you almost never will change it down at DMV. If you need more GW then buy a bigger truck.

Air bags will not allow you to carry more weight. I have run air bags on 2 different rigs, I see little reason to ever run them again. Air bags DO provide a smoother ride in some cases depending upon their capabilities and installation you can use an on board air compressor to adjust ride height(s). Outside of that I can find little or no use (if anyone thinks different I WELCOME your insight).
