Hi All,
I'm new here and have a few questions. I bought a 1977 Starcraft Popup camper and I'm having issues with the trailer lighting. The problem is the lights are really dim on the trailer and when I press the brake on the truck the lights on the trailer go out. If I have the running lights on and turn on the vehicle turn signal all lights on the trailer will flash. I've redone all the grounds on the trailer and still having the same problem. I'm assuming it's in the factory plug mounted to the trailer since it's the only thing I can't tear apart and redo and if I jiggle the plug the lights will flicker. Would I be stupid to just go ahead and cut out the fuse(s) that run the trailer and wire it direct with new wires and lights? I'm not planning on using the truck battery to ever run the camper since the previous owner cut all those wires and I'm not sure how they hook back up. All the places we go camping have power so I can just pull out the drop cord and supply power to the camper. Is there any other places you can suggest I try to isolate this problem? I'm at a lost and am getting frustrated so any help will be greatly appreciated. |

About half way there was a break in the ground and it was corroded so I just rewired the harness with about 3 feet of new wire and it works like a charm. Guess I needed to remember to use a false ground from the truck to trailer to see if the harness ground was good. Once grounded with a clean wire it went bright and was the dead giveaway for the bad harness ground.. Thanks anyway!! |

Good for you. Sometimes the most simple things will drive you crazy. Glad you got it fixed.
