Hello everyone! Yes yet another newbie but one without a proper truck or camper
I've done quite a bit of intense studying and have learned lots but nothing like actually being on the road. Iâ????m a fit 62 year old artist. Iâ????ve been sharing a house with a lady for 12-14 years or so. But as all goods must end, we decided to part company, she to Philly PA for grandkids and meâ??¦well, to hit the road and paint American Landscapes. It occurred to me that I could sell everything I own (practically), buy a 250 or 350 Ford Diesel (I now have a 150 Ford) and perhaps a Lance camper and become a â????full timer.â???? The truck is a no-brainer, probably a Ford 250 Diesel, 4x4, four door and long bed, sway bar, extra leaf spring, tow package, etc. But the camper is another matter all together. Iâ????ve have read a lot about Lance some folks say it has the best quality for the money, but I have also looked at several other brands, like Palomino, Adventurer, Okanagan, and Bigfoot, to name a few. I am looking at late model used instead of brand new. Any advice you folks are willing to give about the brand and type of camper or truck I need and thoughts and experiences of being a â????full timerâ???? would greatly appreciated Larry This post has been edited by zatoichi: Sep 9 2009, 07:25 PM |

This is my brand. I am on my 4th Starcraft and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Gary Also you may want to look at the Hallmark, my buddy has one and he loves it. http://www.hallmarkrv.com/page/home.html -------------------- 1999 F350 Power Stroke Dually Super Cab, 2003 Lance 1030

You might also want to look at Eagle Cap, Host, and Arctic Fox.
Depending on the size of camper you select, you may also want to consider a 1-ton with duallies. Find your camper first and then buy the truck that will carry it safely. |

Thanks for the kind response. I have been looking at the wide array of books available on truck camping and thought I might ask you experienced folks if you could recommend some books for a green horn newbie

Hmmmm...I don't know of any books, but there are a couple of websites:
NATCOA Truck Camper Magazine (The "Choose a Truck" and "Choose a Camper" articles may be of particular interest to you) |
