Favorite Truck Camper(s): Lance
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: F-250HD 4X4 SuperCab
Type of Tiedowns used: Happijac
Truck and Camper Setup: 1994 Ford F-250HD 4X4 SuperCab, 460 gas engine w/5-spd. Air Lift springs on all four corners, full Banks exhaust system, Transfer Flow tanks, etc. Camper is 1995 Lance 4000.

Good Day,

I'm a newbie on this forum, just ran into you while running a few internet searches. I'm not a newbie with trucks and campers, having run a '94 Ford F-250/'95 Lance 4000 combo since 1995 all over the western US over 200K miles. As such, in the office I work at I've become the resident expert on all things truck and camper related.

That said, here's my question;

A colleague just found a nice '74 Amerigo camper about 10 hours drive away from here. He does not have a truck to carry it with, and somehow he convinced me to drive up with him to pick it up and haul it home for him, to park in his yard until he comes up with a suitable truck. Thing is, I know that certain older campers have problems fitting on newer trucks and I warned him that a flatbed trailer might be an option worth considering if we can't figure out ahead of time what the "actual dimensions" of a 1974 Amerigo Camper are.

Has anyone ever heard of an Amerigo? Has anyone ever seen one on a late model Classic F-Series? Anyone have dimensions? Anyone know what type of electrical connector Amerigo used and what end of the camper it might be on? Were Bargman connectors even *invented* back in 1974?

Weight is probably not a problem, the Lance I've been carrying for almost 15 years weighs in at 3,000 pounds (don't believe the brochures - go out and weigh it to be sure) and this Amerigo looks about the same. Just eyeballing photos I've found on the 'net it looks like I'll have to build a platform of some type.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Crusty Old Joe

This is a 72 model. ' bout 2000 #s near as I can figure. As you can see, it fits nicely on a '06 F150.
Also, Tje plug in is on the left front. Seven pin. I just used a 4 pin on the truck and the one on the camper. If I can wire it anyone can..

Type of Tiedowns used: Home made front and rear
Truck and Camper Setup: Amerigo Camper, Airlift air bags, 94 F250 Powerstroke, Home made front and rear tie downs. Home made Hitch.

I own a 1994 F250 4x4 Super Cab Powerstroke Diesel and load a Amerigo Slide in on it. Not sure date of MFG. The electrical connection for the camper harness is on the drivers side front. I have about 4 inches between the cab and the over hang of the camper plus it just makes it on without having to remove the rear bumper.

Favorite Truck Camper(s): Dreamer by TII
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: 1977 Chevy C30 crewcab dually camper special with 1970 TII Dreamer Imperial 11.5' with side gaucho
Type of Tiedowns used: Chevy "camper special" factory bolts with 4 logging chains and screw-jacks!
Truck and Camper Setup: She's a bone stock 1977 Chevy C30 Silverado crew cab dually Camper Special with a 10,000lb. gvw from the factory, loaded with a stock 1970 Dreamer Imperial 11.5' side gaucho. The height of 1970s luxury! The Chevy has a Dana 70 differental fitted with full-floating axels, so 4000lbs. wet is no problem. She's powered by a mildly built 454cid big block backed by a TH400 3 speed auto. Yes, it gets about 8 to 10 miles per gallon. If you can't afford the gas, you can't afford the rig! (I'd rather spend thousands on gas than 50k for a new diesel truck!) Besides, old is good... She's a green and white two-tone, and the camper is white with green stripes. My parents bought the Dreamer used in 1979 for a great family vacation. Dad loaded her on his 1977 Ford F150 Custom and drove it all through WV., Tenn., Fla., NC, SC, and Va. Can you imagine a HALF-TON carrying that camper up and down the mountains? I don't know how she did it. I've still got Dad's old Ford, too, fitted with his late-60s era cap. I don't know what brand it is, but it's 2x4s covered with plywood covered by heavy aluminum siding. It weighs about 400 or 500 lbs. itself! They don't make 'em like that anymore....

Hi!
Ah the Amerigo! They were SO 70s! To me, they looked like a Starfleet RV from a failed Gene Roddenberry project! Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the Starfleet look...
I know they were big and heavy, being fiberglass, but don't have any actual specs. Sorry. Art
