QUOTE(DWJoyce @ Aug 1 2017, 01:38 AM)
Not a lot of damage. A few more hours, a few dollars for wood, and many hours of cleaning and you've got a really nice Lance!

Get rid of all that OSB. Amazing Lance used that junk. Replace it with CDX treated with Marine Spar and you'll never regret it.

Enjoy your project and the great outdoors!

Hi DW,

not Lance use the OSB, that was an RV Shop that repairs the Camper with this Junk!

Flip you are right wink.gif

Hi,
after a long time waiting for dry and warm weather (we never had so mutch rain in the Summer like this year) dry.gif

i start do disample the Lance, i remove all the Aluminiumplanking and find some damage and rotten wood sad.gif now i can start to make a plan what wood must be replace and how i can do it.

The front of the Camper comes down around two inch in case of the stupid repair that was made years ago in a RV Shop in Arizona, i hope they go bust with there business, because they do not know what they do, and they damage more as they repair.

But the Homepage on the older invoice (preowner paid $2000 for this repair) is not longer online, so i hope they dont damage any Camper or RV in the future! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

Hi,

i have remove the Mattress yesterday, under it i foud a lot o Moisture traces. So i remove the rotten wood and find a older repair.

Someone put a weldet Steelframe in but they dont change the also rotten sidewalls and the Steelframe ist not srewed to the Frame. So its a stupid bullshit repair, i will take some Pictures.

My plan is to remove the planking and restore the complete front, wood be nice to see pictures from you, maybe we can help eachother.

This Program makes Pictures here realy easy: http://picr.de/ works great without registration, than only copy and pace!

Hi,

Dual altenators are not a must! you can buy a chargeregulator so that the Camperbattery will be charge after the Truckbattery is fully charge from the altenator wile driwing. We use this system here in Germany in nearly all Campers or RV's double altenator only burn Fuel. And if you pay $4,70 for a Gallon you think twice about it ;-)

Hi,

right for Offroaduse not the best, but if you look for a Slideincamper from the good old Day's its not bad.

I find this Side as i look for Ideas to rebuild my 1985 Lance 850. I will remove the Aluminiumplanking in Springtime and take a look on the Structure under it.

If i find to mutch rottet wood i think its mutch easyer to build a 100% new one as to rebuild the Lance.

But i can use 100% of the Technical thinks, like Heater, Waterheater, Fridge and so on, because all of them work.

Hi,

if you are not happy with what you can buy, try to build your own Truckcamper:

Glen RV-Plans

here you can build it in the Quality that you look for, and you can do personal changes to get the best Desingn for your personal ideas.

Hi,

can load 2976 Lbs on my old 1985 F250 Diesel, and my Truckcamper is an 1985 Lance Model 780 wetwight 2568 Lbs so i have no Problem with overload.

And this is ok for german Streetlegal, we do a little other Messurements here, Truckwight is with both full Tanks and me as Driver is 5621 Lbs GVWR from Doordecal is 8598 Lbs so i can load on Top 408 Lbs.

But i read that the newer camper are more heavy than the old ones and that the GVWR on newer trucks is a nightmare.

I think this is typical, Pickuptrucks are not longer workhorses the new ones are more like an SUV for Citydrivers ;-)

This is why i love to drive Classic Cars and Trucks

All the best from Germany

Hi,

yes i jump in cold water with this Projekt! But i am not unable to do woodwork because i build Modelairplanes and run my one Carshop for US-Classicars here in Germany.

Today i remove the woodenplates on the Sidewall to see why they are there, there are nearly no Waterdamage, i find only on spot under the Freshwatertank that need to be replace.

i search for the Leak and find it, the Fillingtube for the Freshwatertank is broken, so every time when the Tank was filled Water flo down the tube and float the Wood on the right front Corner of the base.

I fill the Tank today until it was full, Tank is ok, and the rest of the Watersystem al tubes and other Parts are dry. Also under Pumppressure!

Now i must figure out how the Interiorparts are build in and how i can remove some Parts without destroy them do do a good repair in the rotten Areas in the base.

Regards from Germany

Hi,

i like to start a new Topic about the Restauration on my 1985 Lance 780 Truckcamper that i get for free, it has some Waterdamage, but everything from the technical equipment works so think the effort is worth it.

some Pictures from my Starttingpoint

My plan for next Spring is:

- remove all outside planking and take a look on the wooden struckture
- replace rotten or damage wooden Parts
- replace Gaslines (because they are not allowed in Germany)
- replace Gasbottle storage (i like to use one 5 Kilogramm Bottle and not two little ones)
- put a new planking in light composit plasticmaterial that is now used in Trailerbuild

A old friend of mine works in this Business so i can get the right material and glue to do this Job right and i think after this it's Waterproof and lighter as the 2600 lbs wetweight now.

About the weight the Sticker say's wet 2600 lbs but its no problem my F250 Diesel is allowed to load 2900 lbs over his own weight.

All the best

Hi,

you are right with the Componets!

Yes i get it cheap, it was for free wink.gif

But you are also right with the waterleaks, but its not mutch damage because it was most of his life storage dry and warm.

I cant upload Pictures today, but they will come.

QUOTE(SidecarFlip @ Nov 3 2016, 02:11 AM)
Torsten...  Don't run it except for a very, very short time without water in the tank, you'll ruin the heater.  When you fill it, open the valve at the top of the tank and leave it open until water comes out steadily, the close it.  That insures the tank is completely filled....

I had a Lance (like yours) so if you have any questions, just ask.
*

Hi, thank you very mutch for your help, i filled the Heater up before i test it. I think when i start the Restauration of this Camper there comes a lot of question blink.gif

I also test the rest of the Camperequitmend an all works, so its a good base for restauraiton i think, i will send some pictures later today!

I was a little dissapointet about the Lance Faktory, i send them a message and ask about instructions or Informations about the Type 780 Camper from 1985 to get a better idea about the Restauration but i never get a replay, so i think they are not interestet in the older units that they build in the 80's unsure.gif

Hi SidecarFlip,

thank you for your Answer.

I do a research on the Internet and figure out what the smal black Elektronikpart is biggrin.gif Its an Elektronik Ingnition System!.

I clean up the switch with Contactspray, ad hey it works, if i switch it to the on Possion it starts to beeb and give some Ignition sparks, than i press the smal red Button and the Pilotflame comes on.

After it ligths on the Igniton stops direct. I depress the Button 10 Seconds and the Pilotflam stays on and i can switch it to heat.

The Unit works now how it should, now i only must look how to maintain the Unit and i will contact them to get knowlege about.

Hi,

i buy this ones

HappiJac 182910 Ford FT-UT9 Direct-To-Frame Tie Down Kit

to secure my Lance 780 on my 1985 F250 and it looks stable to me, before i look also at the anchors that go in the stake pockets in the top of the bed.

But it looks not trustfull to me so i walk away from this.

Best regards from Germany
