There are several makes and models for 1/2 ton pickups. Lance makes the 805 model, and Travel like makes light ones as well along with other brands

I think your truck is fine for that camper. The 951 was designed for the 250 or 3/4 ton truck. With the proper support equipment you are fine. Going over your GVWR doesn't mean you are not safe. It is a guide from the manufacturer of the truck for liability purposes. Think of all the farmers and contractors putting 5 an 6 thousand pounds behind the wheel well, they have to limit it for that purpose. With a truck camper, the weights are distributed properly.
Congrats on your purchase and enjoy truck camping!!

The 890SBRX will work for you vehicle. In my opinion, the difference between wood and aluminum really doesn't matter. From what I was told, there are many grades of aluminum and unless you have a really good grade like what is in the Lance campers, then it is heavier then wood. Wood acts as a better insulater then aluminum and wood to wood bonds better then wood to aluminum. I think the Travel Lite makes a pretty good camper for the price and the fit and finish is nice also. You shouldn't have any problem towing, you will need and extension bar and also put airbags on your truck to help with the lift in the rear.
I hope this helps

QUOTE(mdvernier @ Dec 2 2005, 07:38 PM)
dry.gif My camper came with full lp tanks(2) after one camping trip i tried to get them topped off for the next advnture and have been in formed that they can't be refilled need to get upgrades tanks, mine are horizonal tanks ! with a gauge any insights on how or where to fix this dilemma? Any advice is appreciated thanks Mike Vernier

You can buy new valves at an rv store and then have a certified lp station install them. Check with them first to see if you can supply your own valves or if you need to buy them and have them installed by the lp service place. Also some Rv shops can do it if they are certified in propane. Or, you will have to buy new tanks. Horizonal tanks are a little pricey. If your tanks are rusted, then you may want to spring for new ones. Hope this helps smile.gif Toby

I'm sure if you didn't notice anything then you are fine. Lance is a fine company and is the largest manufacturer of truck campers in America so if this was a big issue they would have offered some kind of a recall. Congrats on your new unit and enjoy it. Life is too short to look for problems. It's almost like saying be cautious of firestone because of a problem they had. Big companies take care of problems or they wouldn't be in business. I would still rather go with a popular name brand then I would a secondary one just knowing I would be taken care of.
Still waiting for those snowy pics. biggrin.gif

Hoagie,
Congrats on your new purchase. What a site that must be watching the snow blow from your camper. Sounds all warm and cozy. Where are you anyway?
Toby
P.S. also looking forward to some pics

I just spotted Sterlin Marlin's lance camper on Adventure's website. That must be the one in the brochure. The price seems decent for both.

I got to see these on another rig over the weekend. Wow, these look so easy. I am going to search online for some. Anyone using them ? I saw the torklift ones and wasn't impressed with the thickness of the hook. Tight squeeze to get it on the eyebolt. Quickloads look perfect.

I still haven't gotten to see one of these up close and personal. I read somewhere else about them filing bankrupcty. In my opinion if they are doing this to recoup, it will be hard to come back now with gas prices. I would think they would be about finished. Anyone have input on this?

I really don't know either. I hear alot of people boondock in the outer banks. Well, maybe not this weekend with Ophelia hammering on them. I guess I was just wondering if people go on the beach certain times of the year or do they have some sort of event.

What kind of truck camper are you buying and how heavy is it? Airbags help considerably to beef up the suspension.

What Truck Camper would be the best to buy?

There are many many good brands out there. That is kind of a loaded question. You should figure out what your needs are then you can research the ones that fit your price range and truck. Some of the top names are Lance, Artic Fox, Alpin Lite, and many others. These I mentioned are higher end and there are more less expesive as well. Hope this helps
