Truck and Camper Setup: Silverado 1500, 1985 Scamper 8’, crank up.

Just got a new pickup. (well, not new...a “less old” pickup). I’d like some suggestions on suspension help. I have an old Scamper 8’ and it weighs about 1200 lb. Both my old and new pickups and 1/2 ton Silverados. The old one was a ’98 and the “new” one is a 2000 Z71. Both have the short box.

On the old one, I had an extra set of leaf springs put on and it handled the weight very well. I felt like a 3/4 ton when the camper wasn’t on but I never minded. Costs less than $200 to do this. Is this the best route? I’ve had folks recommend air bags and compression springs. I’d appreciate some thoughts.

Thanks,

Trail
