Hi, I recently aquired a 1970 Revella Model 108 Truck Bed Camper from my neighbor. I was at his house one day and asked him about it and he told me I could just have it. I towed it from his house on my trailer but I want an easier set up as my trailer is a landscaper with high sides and it was a pain getting it on there. I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500HD with the 6.7 cummins motor. It is a short bed (6.5') The camper however is made for an 8' bed. I was just curious if anyone has mounted a long bed camper in a short bed truck. When my tail gate is down I gain an extra 2' but I am concerned that the tailgate probably wont hold the rear weight of the camper. I have the orginal paperwork for the camper and the weight is 1600 pounds but I know that has to be before any accessories were put in it because this camper is heavy! Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. If worse comes to worse I'll paint it camo and use it as a hunting blind!

I have seen folks use an 8 foot camper on a 6 foot bed with the tailgate down and it worked just fine. The only problem they had was in towing because of the tailgate being down. As far as weight on the tailgate, since you will only have about 2 feet of the camper acutally sitting on the taigate, it shouldn't be a problem because most all the weight of the camper will be sitting on the bed of the truck. At least thats my thoughts.

I personally don't think you need the 2x6's. there's not enough camper hanging over to put much weight on the tailgate. If I were gonna do anything, I would put a sheet of 1/2 plywood under the camper. JMHO
