Am getting ready to replace my current F350 with a 2013 F350 Lariat which comes with a rearview camera in my tailgate. Only problem is the tailgate has to come off to load the slide-in camper. Because of the camera, the tailgate can't come off and Ford is not sure if problem codes will start if we add a quick disconnect junction.
Has anyone had any experince with adding a quick disconnect or even relocating the camera from the tailgate? Ford does not offer an option to not have the camera. Thanks. |

Just get on your back, find the connector and unplug it. Then put the cap (which is tied to the wire) over the connector to keep the dirt out. Then remove the tailgate. You don't need to add anything, Ford has made taking off the tailgate easy, no codes either. Who ever told you that the tailgate can't come off because you have a camera is wrong. -------------------- 2011, F-350,CC,DRW,6.7,4WD

Skyhammer is exactly right. I just bought a new 2012 F-350 with a back up camera and a 2012 Arctic Fox TC. Just go under the truck, follow the wire harness that goes between your tailgate and bed. After you unplug it, the tailgate will come of no problem. use a flathead screwdriver to release the tailgate cables, then put the tailgate at a 45 degree angle and the passenger side will pull straight back, and then lift the tailgate up to an 80 degre angle and slide the tailgate to the right. It is now off, my only recommendation is to have someone help you. The tailgate is extremely large, heavy and cumbersome. I took it off myself the first time, so I know it can be done, but it's not easy at all. Plus, if you drop it, I'll bet a new one is at least a grand or so.
