I just purchased a set of Brophy scissor steps for my Arctic Fox 1150. The height from the camper bumper to the floor of the camper is to high for my short wife or grandkids. The problem is that once they are mounted, there will be a 6 1/2" gap between the back of the top scissor step and the camper body, just perfect for someone to step into and fall, resulting in a broken ankle, leg or worse.

I'm sure that I am not the first to encounter this problem, so I am asking for suggestions or help.

I contacted Arctic Fox customer service and I guess that all of their engineers are 7 feet tall, because they don't offer any options to help shorter folks get into their campers.

I found some info last night on the Arctic Fox Truck Camper Forum about a company called Step-Up Manufacturing. They make steps that have a platform option at the door, so that there isn't a large gap between the last step and the camper floor. They also make a step that has the double bars for the longer steps and I'm guessing, heavier customers.

I sent them an E-mail asking about mounting (permanent or a bracket the steps fit into so that they can be easily removed), whether or not there is a large gap on the non-platform models, pricing and/or a dealer where I can buy these.

I'm sure that I won't hear back from them until Monday (If they are still in business) and will post any info I receive.

I'm going to attempt to attach a photo of the Brophy steps that I purchased and am sending back, showing my concern about safety. I could fabricate some sort of platform, but I shouldn't have to![attachmentid=65]
