Full Version: '74 Amerigo On '94 Ford?

Good Day,

I'm a newbie on this forum, just ran into you while running a few internet searches. I'm not a newbie with trucks and campers, having run a '94 Ford F-250/'95 Lance 4000 combo since 1995 all over the western US over 200K miles. As such, in the office I work at I've become the resident expert on all things truck and camper related.

That said, here's my question;

A colleague just found a nice '74 Amerigo camper about 10 hours drive away from here. He does not have a truck to carry it with, and somehow he convinced me to drive up with him to pick it up and haul it home for him, to park in his yard until he comes up with a suitable truck. Thing is, I know that certain older campers have problems fitting on newer trucks and I warned him that a flatbed trailer might be an option worth considering if we can't figure out ahead of time what the "actual dimensions" of a 1974 Amerigo Camper are.

Has anyone ever heard of an Amerigo? Has anyone ever seen one on a late model Classic F-Series? Anyone have dimensions? Anyone know what type of electrical connector Amerigo used and what end of the camper it might be on? Were Bargman connectors even *invented* back in 1974?

Weight is probably not a problem, the Lance I've been carrying for almost 15 years weighs in at 3,000 pounds (don't believe the brochures - go out and weigh it to be sure) and this Amerigo looks about the same. Just eyeballing photos I've found on the 'net it looks like I'll have to build a platform of some type.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Crusty Old Joe

This is a 72 model. ' bout 2000 #s near as I can figure. As you can see, it fits nicely on a '06 F150.
Also, Tje plug in is on the left front. Seven pin. I just used a 4 pin on the truck and the one on the camper. If I can wire it anyone can..
