We recently bougth a 91 Hallmark Ute 8' popup for my 2500 dodge. We have used it twice and love it.
I know that there is a way to wire the camper to the truck so as to charge the battery and run the fridge on the way to and from the campsite, also charge the battery while in the back country for extended periods. I just can not seem to find the parts on the internet.
Is there a kit I can buy? If so what is it called and what is a fair price?

if there is an auxiliary battery in the camper you can hook up an isolator to the truck's alternator, battery and the auxiliary battery.

Sure power makes a good isolator that is easy to install. They do not sell to the public however most rv stores will have this part. about 70.00 marty

a cheaper option is to buy a soleniod. it does the same thing as an isolator but may be a little less reliable in the long term. it's $25 compared to $70 for an isolator but make sure to get a amp protector with it (couple dollars).

I have used one of these: Hellroaring Technology Battery Isolator for years. Excellent email and phone support/advice.

why not just run off the 12v charge line in the 7 way plug. both my trucks have a switch to just the charge line off when not needed. i used to haul rvs for a living. we never put a battery in the unit for a short trip. just ran the electric jacks off the charge line then shut it off while going down the road. in my own rv i left the switch on to keep the battery up while i was going down the road. (only took me one time of forgetting to shut the switch off when we stopped to remeber)

If you dont have a 7 way plug you should, along with a brake contorler for the trialer brakes.
