We have had 30 ft RV travel trailer and F250 crew cab diesel for years, but now realize a camper/truck combination would be very helpful for my many overnight business trips. After lots of shopping we really like the Lance 971 with slide and dry bath. I like the generator which our RV does not have, and the large interior in a very short camper package, as I may be driving this almost every day even when not intending to camp.
Although we are very familiar with RV camping, this would be our first truck camper, and although we are convinced the 971 meets all our needs I would like to know if there are any bad/ugly issues that we would not realize until after signing on the dotted line. Also, we plan to use the AC and generator while parked in parking lots for some business meetings, or so wife can enjoy cooling while I am attending a conference or all day meeting. Can the Coleman 2500 gen handle this type of service and will propane usage be a big issue?
Thanks

Hi I have a Lance 981 wet bath that I purchased just this year, I really enjoy this camper, I have run the A/C with the generator and it seems to handle it just fine, I have not ran it for hours on end, but it should work ok, the greater the altitude the less efficient the generator is, as I live and camp above 6K I never run the microwave at the same time the air is on. I looked at the dry bath model 981 but did not want to give up the storage space in the kitchen. My one comment on my camper is it is very heavy some 4400lbs or more, I have a F350 PS, dually, air bags, an after market sway bar, just to control the wt. I would never put this camper on a F250 truck it just is not built for it, not sure how heavy the 971 is. but do check it out. Check your gross wt rating, my truck gross wt is around 13k and with a 8600lbs. truck and the camper I'm also close or over gross. I just looked up the wts and a 971 dry wt is 3265lbs. you have to add several hundreds lbs to this for the wet wt. an F250 4x2 is listed at 3100lbs. bed wt. and a 4x4 is 2800lbs. or 10K gross wt. Just check it out for yourself so you know what your getting into.
