Hi All
Well, I just discovered the site, did a bit of tooling around and joined up. I am starting the legwork for possibly buying a unit in the future, and I hoped you could help me.
My story is, I am currently living in a 1 bdrm apartment, and soon to possibly move into a house with some buddies/bandmates(in the somewhat distant future). The kernel of an idea has come about that we may need to go on tour. In a few years I may have access to some money, indirectly, that could set us up with vehicular transport.
My best idea so far has been a truck, camper and small box trailer to haul gear.
My rough idea would be to find a 250/2500 diesel, but I have no clue on which brands of camper to look out for. The money I would have would add up to almost 14,000 canadian, and that would have to cover the whole kit and kaboodle.
First of all, is this even feasible? Assuming I could find a used truck(gas, diesel, etc) for 6000-7000, and a used camper for 5000-6000.
For a camper, my rough idea at present is a hard side unit, over cab double bed, dinette bed and bunk bed over dinette(it would have to sleep 3+ some gear). I have yet to set foot inside one of these units, but I know I would feel more comfortable if my truck couldnt be driven away while I sleep.
If anyone can direct me to a directory/resource of Camper specs/classification, that would be great.
I am interested in knowing of the progress that has been made from 70's models to today, and resources you can give me?
Does anyone know of a Wiki, or resource similar to FuelEconomy.gov, which would itemize specs throughout the years?
Thanks for any insight you can give me, still very new to this whole business.
