Former owner will dropping off the 1997 Lance 945 that we purchased from them shortly. We need to install the necessary hardware on to our 2008 Chevy 2500 D-Max/Allison so we can start truck camping.
Dealer wants: Air Bags $550, Tiedowns $700, Wiring $240=$1490
I am mechanically inclined and think I can bolt on these items for a lot less $. I would like the tie downs that go to the chassis and not the bed. Do I want the HappiJacs or the Torklifts or something else? Can you recommenend air bags? Are the Lance Air-Lift bags with "Jounce Bumpers" proprietary to Lance? Should I wire it direct or use the 10" foot pigtail that allows you to use the trailer plug for the camper as well as tow a trailer? That would seem to be the cleaner way with less splicing of the wires.
Sorry for all the questions but we are new to the truck camper and would like to do it right and save some $!

Can't help with air bags, as we don't have any on our dually. However, I can highly recommend the Torklift tiedowns with the Fast Gun turnbuckles.

I was able to put the airlift airbags and camper tie downs on my truck, but I had the dealer install the wiring as lance uses a plug of their own, it must have a wire running to the battery to power the 12volt function of the fridge and be fused, have had zero problems with the wiring and felt the money was well spent.

Torklift brackets front and rear purchased on ebay were about $370. Install took a couple hours.
Firestone airbags were $255 with shipping. Install took less than an hour.
Wiring I will be doing next. 140 amp NOCO battery isolator- $35 on Overstock.com. 40 feet 4 guage wire $29 at wallmart (I took apart their 20ft 4 guage jumper cables...it was cheaper than buying the wire by 50%.). 75amp 12 volt circuit breaker, ebay, $10 with shipping. lug to take power from under truck into truckbed, $10, Jumpstart lug to mount next to trailerhitch, $10. JEGS racing. Battery power disconnect switches for the bed power and the jumper lug, $8 each at harborfreight. The stock wiring setup had only a 12 gauge wire and a 20 amp fuse to charge the trailer battery and run all camper systems. I will be set with a 4 gauge setup, with breaker at 75 amps. This will do a much better job of charging the battery, as well as giving me a jump starting lug on the rear bumper of the truck in case I ever feel like helping someone else out, or need a jumpstart myself.
