I have a 1999 Ford F250 superduty supercab 4x4 Diesel 8 foot bed truck. I live in San Diego and want to go on trips all over from the beach to the mountains. Any help on what company I should buy what I should stay away from. It is just the two of us so I don`t need a big camper.
Thanks for your help.

Take this for what it's worth since it's just a personal opinion, but after researching truck campers for quite awhile, we decided on a Lance 1040. They just seem to have an excellent reputation in the industry, and this is definitely one of the best built RVs we've ever owned (and we've owned four).

We chose the 1040 for a couple of reasons. First, we really didn't care about a slide-out, and didn't want to max out the capacity of our F-350 dually (it's just the wife and I and our dog). The 1040 was designed from the beginning for three quarter ton long bed pickups (830 is for short beds) and IMHO it feels just as roomy as some of the bigger Lance units with slide-outs. It's got a wet bath, but that wasn't really a big deal for us. It's easy enough to do a quick wipe down of the bathroom after showering.

Second, coming from a European-designed travel trailer, we really liked the Euro feeling of the 830/1040. The cabinets are very sleek (none of that dark oak traditional American RV stuff), with very high quality drawer slides and camlock handles. The dinette slides easily out of the way when not in use, opening up the interior even more. And best of all, this camper is the only Lance with a large enough exterior compartment to hold our Honda EU2000 generator as well as a spare propane tank (albeit only a 2.5 gallon pancake tank).

Anyway, probably much more info than you were looking for, but I'm totally impressed with Lance, this being my first truck camper. They're decidedly more expensive than other truck campers, but you get what you pay for when it comes to RVs.

Best of luck with your search.

We have a Lance 1181 which is larger than you can use but just wanted to say we concure with Eric about the quality of the lance. We have been in many different rv's and the quaity in these guys are fantastic. They also are great to work with on warranty if you can drive to Lancaster. We have been living in ours now for about a year full time and have been to several dealers across the country for a few minor things (which is normal for all rv's). We recently took a trip to the Lancaster service and manufacture facility and they not only handled a couple of things we asked for but went over our rig and found other things we did not even know about and took care of it all and then washed it and our truck when they handed it back.
They have several nice choices for your size truck, I personally like the dry bath set up best mainly because it doubles as an extra closet. Anyway good luck and happy trails!!!

Wow, I think I need to take a drive down to Lancaster for some service! tongue.gif Seriously, that kind of personal service and attention to detail is rare in the RV industry. Another great example of why to go with Lance.

I looked at the lance 835 and I think it might be too small but I found a nice 2006 1025. It that a good model?
What is the best tie down to get happyjac or tork lift?
Thanks
