hey guys, i'm a new member and new to truck campers, i bought an older 77' truck 8ft truck camper this past weekend. does anyone know the approx. weight of an older 8'....i have a funny feeling this might be a little more than my truck can handle, i will be installing air bags, and checking my tires for weight allowance, but i cant find anywhere what the weight of this thing would be, the guy a bought it from only had a 1/2 chev and i drive an 07' titan so i am hoping i wont need to much work to my truck..

If you are going to install air bags, put them on and then set it in your truck. then i would run it to the closest set of scales and check the weight. then you will know if you need to upgrade your tires. you should probably add you water weight and some weight for supplies. my guess on that unit would be 2000 pounds. but it could be as low as 1750. You should light weigh your truck before you load it on. If you go to a truck stop they can weigh each axle for you.

Hey, nice looking older camper! Yours looks a lot like mine does. They are the exact same size, color and everything. They look to be different brands but other than the windows, I can't see much difference in them.

My 1/2 ton Dodge ram 4x4 does just fine with mine. I worried same as you before I put it on the first time. Most people will tell ya to use a 3/4 ton to haul any truck camper that isnt a light weight pop up thing but I think the older 8ft campers are just fine on most 1/2 ton trucks as long as your tires are 8-10 ply. You may need to get air bags if it squats your truck a bunch. I thought I might need them too before I put it on but my truck didnt squat hardly at all. I was also very surprised how good my truck rode with it on there.

Let me know how it works out!

nice lookin camper. i love the idea of an older or umm mature camper. it'll leave me with more $$$ to stay gone longer.
