Full Version: We got it home!!

Well here it is! Bringing it home with our f-150 was not nearly as scary as we thought it would be.

All we did to the truck is add an extra leaf spring to the rear. It sags a little, but it drove okay, not sure about also pulling the boat though ... one step at a time I guess wink.gif

It is a 1986 SunLINE Sportster. As you can tell it is pretty excellent shape for being 24 years old.

Exterior:
The driver side is missing one of the utility covers. If anyone has any suggestions: ) There is also some mildew on the outside that we plan on just bleaching off, can anyone think of any reasons not to use bleach? One of the sunlights is cracked, but can't see of any leaks yet, we are just going to caulk the crack.

Interior:
We removed all the curtains to wash them. Bad idea because a few got shredded in the wash. I am having a friend fix them. I want to keep them all matching: ) The paneling in the front of the cab over is a tattered from a previous leak, but it is all still together. One of the moldings on a skylight broke off, going to get a new one. That is all we found.

Electrical:
Has not been tested yet, we need to get our truck wired with a seven-way and we are going to bowwow a utility cord from my cousin in the mean time. Driver side marker light is out, but we found a pack of bulbs in the camper.

Gas:
We need to install a new propane line, the parts came with it. The fridge and stove are both gas operated.

So that is where we are at ... not bad for 200 bucks!

Yes we did! We committed to buy it after only seeing two phone pics: ) Figured if nothing worked we would at least be able to part it out!

We know the truck is not ideal. We will be in the market for and F250 in about a year and a half. Till then we will be upgrading to some LT tires.

Another question. Got the camper plugged in and it seems that all the lights, outlets, AC, hood fan, and water pump work.

We found three leaks in the bathroom. Two fittings on the hot water tank and the fitting going to the toilet. I am hoping that they just loosened the fittings to winterize it, we did not get time to mess with it. Any insight would be great.

We didn't get any reaction out of the fridge so we plugged it directly into the house, still nothing. Should we be able to hear anything? I have read it takes a while to get cool, but we are not even hearing anything.

Thanks in advance!

Tighten the fittings and add a wrap or two of teflon tape to the threads. my fridge is totally silent. Good luck!

These RV fridges are very quiet. They work by heating ammonia in the refridgeration system. When the fridge uses propane, it heats the ammonia with a burner, when it switches to A/C then an A/C heater turns on instead of the propane burner. In both cases you need to have the 12Vdc feed to the fridge working since that power is used by the fridge's controller.

I'd have a quick look around back of the fridge where the controller usually is. The access panel on the outside is where you want to go - it looks like its the one thats open. There's probably a couple of fuses on the controller board (one for 12Vdc and then one for the A/C feed). Disconnect all power and then check to make sure these are ok. Also when you're back there, after reconnecting all power, check to make sure you're getting A/C and 12Vdc to the fridge - Use a voltage meter for this not your fingers... or tongue! ohmy.gif

If you've got propane in the tanks, the A/C power disconnected and the fridge is working you should be able to hear the propane burner working. With the A/C connected and the fridge working you probably won't hear anything at all.

Hope this helps.

I find it funny that they work by heating something laugh.gif

The refer door is indeed what is missing. We found one fuse and it seemed to be fine. We will do some more poking around tonight. Thanks for the tips. Will let you know how it goes.

Hi All....justed joined.
In regards to the frige, touch the coils on the back side....they will get warm to hot if it is working.

Great buy! It looks in really good shape. Just a note on washing the out side. I found out if you start washing from the bottom up there won't be a bunch of streaks in the paint. Can't explain it but it's true. have fun!

Looks like you & me have the same truck.... My truck is a 02.... I put ''Firestone Airbags'' on my truck, and it really helps!.... You might have to do the same, especially when you hook your boat up.

If I wasn't pulling my boat behind every time I go camping, Then I wouldn't need the airbags..... I also had better ply tire's made by Cooper put on my truck!

I have to leave my tailgate down also when I haul my camper..... I had to make an ''extension hitch'' so I could pull my boat.... You may have to do that also. laugh.gif .... I have a thread on here with pictures of the kind I make.

You might be able to find one where they sell campers, or you could make one.

I wouldn't use anything strong like ''purple power'', or ''mean green''.... It can take the paint off, especially on older campers.

My wife tells me all the time that I clean our camper too much!..LOL.... If you want your camper to have a great shine.... I highly recommend waxing your camper, and using a buffer!..... I use ''Mother's Wax'', then use a buffer.... After that I use ''Ice Wax'' made by turtle wax.

The ice wax will really make it shine!.... I used to wax campers and made some great cash.... On some I had to wax 3 times before I could get a great shine... You would be surprised how much waxing helps. biggrin.gif

On the fridge:..... You can touch the coils and if they are warm/hot, Then it's working.

Post a picture when you get that camper waxed!!! biggrin.gif ...LOL

On the fridge, the camper has to be level, and I mean LEVEL! Don't run it to long while it is not level or you could damage the coils.
