Hi all. My name is Brian and I live in the Florida Panhandle. I am an experienced RVer with over 600 nights and 60,000 miles with my 2005 Airstream Travel Trailer. I tow it with a 2500 Suburban.

I am thinking of going to a pop-up truck camper for my tow vehicle. I want to do this so that I can park the Airstream while on a trip and venture off into the boonies for a few days. My Airstream weighs 7400# ready to camp and has a 900# tongue weight.

After doing a lot of on-line research, I am considering an Outfitter Apex 8 LB with a dry weight of 1450# on a late model Chevrolet 3500 Duramax crew cab long bed with single rear wheels.

I am looking for opinions among you experienced truck campers as to whether this combo will work.

Thanx, Brian

I'm still doing research. I am still considering the Outfitter Apex, but I am also now looking at the Hallmark Ute XL. Does anyone have any comments on either one, pro or con?

Welcome to the forum. My camping buddy has a Ute and he really likes it. Cost a lot but seems to be well built. We both tow Jeeps and never had any probs.
