I have purchased a 10.5 slide in pop up camper. This will be my third slide in camper in the last 20 years. I have been using motorhomes but wanting to scale down. This unit had slight water damage to 2 ceiling panels. A friend of mine owned this camper and tore it down 10 years ago to repair and never did. He had cut the roof open to enlarge the vent holes because he said replacement vents that sizer were not available. Holes were trimmed with 2x2s. I am installing new paneling on the ceiling now. I have removed the roof. Canvas was already off and I received NOS canvas to install. He framed a hole in center of the roof to install roof air but roof seems to weak to hold it. Hole is not cut but I may install a roof vent in it if I cut it open. After a trip to Branson last week where it was almost 100 degrees every day and 80s at night I will need a/c. What is every one using? I was thinking of making a mount to hang in the pass through window when the camper is off the truck. I cant hack this camper up or the canvas. I have two truck which I plan to use this with but I dont think this makes a difference.

You've got my respect. Any one rebuilding an RV,whoa! Not always an easy job. I've RVing since I was a kid. My experience with roof airs has never been good. There vulnerable up there, there over priced, nobody wants to work on them except the Rv centers, then what ever is wrong with them it is can't be fixed, a new one is bought, and then 2 days down the road it rains, and you guested it, it leaks. I gave up on roof airs long ago. I use window units that can be purchased at any big box store, home depot etc. There inexpensive and easy to replace. I made a couple of brackets that screw to the sides of the units and then fasten to the framing from the inside. I can usually change them out in an hour and I'm back on the road. I've used this method on both travel trailers and tc's. It always looks kind of hokie but I like the trade offs.

Have fun with your rebuild!

Hello!

I have a friend that has a pop up TC, and when he bought it, the camper never had an air conditioner.... He didn't want to put one on top, and was going to put it in the small rear window by the rear door.

He ask if I could help install it.....But I came up with a better idea that he liked.

Does your camper have the small doors down next to the floor ??.... The small door near the floor of the camper that gives you access to the bed of your truck ??

OK, My friends TC had one on each side..... I suggested putting a small AC in one of the doors..... I had to do all the work.... I searched and found a very small AC made by Haier.... This is the same AC in this link...Haier Air Conditioners

That Haier AC is $155.00, But we found the same one at ''Rite Aid'' on sale for $69.99.... I only had to cut 2inches off the side where the small door is, and 1/2 an inch off the top..... The AC fit in the hole very tight, and when I put it in, The AC was tilted back a little so water would drain..... And I never had to support the AC in any way..... With the tight fit, and a lip on top of the AC, It will stay in by it's self.

It worked out perfect!!!..... He takes it out when he loads his camper, and then puts it in when he gets to the campground.... I also made him a larger door to cover the hole while he's traveling..... I fixed it so he can take the door off, because if you open it to put the AC in, then the door would be in your way.

The AC keeps his camper very cool..... You might want to try that. IMHO!.... Because I think those little doors are useless.

I don't have any pictures of his camper with the AC in, But you should understand what I'm talking about.

Hope that helps!

Good-Luck!, and keep up posted!

PS, Check at Rite Aid first for a small AC.
