Full Version: RV Park rules about unloading Truck Camper.

I will soon be purchasing a truck camper to go on my Dodge Heavy Duty 4X4 2500 Short Box. Probably a Lance 815.

While visiting Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden, CO I ask if there were any special rules pertaining to truck campers. I was told by one of the senior staff that the only special rule they had as far as truck campers were concerned was that they did not allow customers to remove the camper from the truck.

I inquired why this kind of rule was enforced and was told they were afraid of blow-overs when one was sitting up high on the struts. I did not ask if the rule was flexible enough to not be in effect if the camper was lowered down all the way. My feeling is that it was a hard and fast rule.

Though I plan to Boondock quite a lot, this kind of rule sort of shoots down my plan of unloading at an RV park occasionally so that I can use my truck to explore the area without having the camper aboard.

Does anyone know if this kind of rule is a common rule in effect at a lot of RV parks?

Your responses / comments will be appreciated.

Hello!

I've never heard of a rule like that before. rolleyes.gif ..... That don't have any rules like that in KY.

I always unload my camper..... They need to understand that when you unload a TC that it doesn't stay ''high in the air'' for long, and once you get your truck out from under it, you can let it down.

If I was you I would explain that to them, or find another place to camp.

Good-Luck!, and I hope you get your Lance camper!!!

I have never heard of this rule either. I hope it doesn't catch on across all the parks.

I had never heard of this prior to reading some of these RV Forums. Well, the next time I went camping at a CG in TN, I inquired about this practice and was told that I could not remove my truck camper . . . that was until the person saw what I was talking about, he then sheepishly admited he thought I was referring to one of those truck toppers and not an actual camper and said that was OK. I think I am just going to stick to my policy of not asking unless it is specific in the CG rules, then I will ask for clarification unsure.gif I always say it is easier to ask forgiveness that to get permission smile.gif

Happy and safe camping!

I went to a privately owned camp ground in Mission Bay(San Diego CA) to go to Sea World and disconnected the truck and lowered the Lance to the ground. When I came back I had a nasty gram left by security to come see them immediately after returning. I was told that the reason they do not allow campers to be unloaded was that if I abandon my truck camper at the park that they had no way of removing the camper from the spot. I left the next day never to return.

It would probably not do any good to argue with them but I'm sure I would have ask him what would keep a tow-along customer from abandoning their trailer once they disconnected. Never to return is no doubt the best course of action.

Me & my wife have been going to the same campground in Ky since the 80s..... We started out with travel trailers, but got tired of driving 2 vehicles to take the camper & boat.... So we went with a TC.

If they ever start this at the campground.... We won't go back!
