Full Version: How to light an older truck camper oven.

I recently bought a much older truck camper called a Security Traveler. I'm using it for a place to spend the night, from time to time, on some property I own in a rural area of Virginia. The camper is NOT installed in my truck but sits on a platform I constructed to hold it.

I figured out the furnace and the three burner stove top was easy, but I have not been able to get the oven to light. Based upon the color of the stove/oven (a bronze/brown) I'm guessing this thing is quite old. The oven brand is Holiday. I've know the propane in the camper is on, and I've tried turning the oven knob to many different positions while I hold a match to the iron burner element but no success. I don't see that there is a pilot for the oven like the furnace has.

Anyone out there familiar with an older camper oven and how to light it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I am guessing it does have a thermocouple to light. The orifice is usually very small so it will take some time to purge any air from the line. You can speed it up a bit by lighting your stove burners for a minute or two to get any air out up to the unit. The thermocouple is usually located in the rear of the oven under the main burner. For safety, please keep your face off to the side when lighting.
