I was just wondering if my camping trips are two to three weeks apart and we gone usually two to three days should the refrigerator be left running with items in it or emptied each time and turned off. The unit is plugged in when we are not using it

That is a toss up. If it's non perishable like coffee creamer, or even eggs, no issue but anything else, probably not. I keep my coffee in a plastic tupperware bin in the fridge all season. I keep my unit shore powered as well.

Six of one, half dozen of another. In terms of function, no reason to shut it down, but do be aware that you are using component life. Another side to this coin is keeping it running circulates the anticorrosive in the cooling coil so less likelihood of failed coil. Manufacturers generally agree it is wise to at least occasionally operate the system if it is going to sit for long periods. There are no firm guidelines in situations like this.

We leave our rig pulled in year round. In the warmer months it so we are not for every packing the foods that go in the fridge back and forth from the house. As well I alsways have a few spare cold beers in the camper if I run out when at home ( grin)
In the winter we leave it plugged in ( fridge off) to keep the batteries charged. A low battery in the cold winter weather will die prematurely, where a full charge battery will be just fine in the cold weather. Soup |

I just got back from up north and when I pulled in, first thing I did was level the camper and then shore power it and switch the fridge to 110 because I'm going up again in a week. Keep in mind that on 110 the fridge isn't as cooling efficient as on propane. The propane flame imparts more heat to the boiler and thus better ammonia flow and cooling efficiency.

QUOTE(SidecarFlip @ Aug 29 2017, 03:49 PM) I recently found this review of HGH-X2 and just got back from up north and when I pulled in, first thing I did was level the camper and then shore power it and switch the fridge to 110 because I'm going up again in a week. Thanks for the tip Sidecar, I never knew that. |

It don't last that long with us. I only take enough for maybe 2 trips but I'll keep your tip in mind. We use the non dairy liquid creamer that lasts forever, like Hostess Twinkies.... |
