I am trying to see what I will need to tow my rig.
I have a 2001 Dodge shortbed 4X4 Diesel with camper package.
Running Firestone air bags
Plan to have a Lance 865 camper in the bed.
I will be towing my Jeep on a flatbed trailer. The rig weighs in at approx 4500 lbs and the trailer is approximat 1200 lbs
I will be upgrading the hitch to a standard class V hitch
Can I get away with an 18 inch extender and a weight distribution hitch?
All standard extenders I have found are good for 350/3500 lbs but says nothing about WD.
I can do all my own fab work and had thought about doing a double extender with a second receiver welded to the existing hitch if it is needed.
What are the options with a limited budget
I thought I would see what others have done.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Ken

Its my learning that most in the TC world that tow anything heavy go with the Torklift Super Hitch and Torklift extention. Some will go with the Titan Class V hitch and the Reese extention, but the Torklift setup is the most desirable.....also the most costly. If you fabricate something yourself, I would think a heavy Class V hitch and a double bar extention would be the way to go.

I hauled my Jeep on a trailer a couple of times and then went with a towbar and have never regretted it. So much easier and less weight to pull around.

Thanks for the replies.
I will probably build up a class V hitch and extenders.
I built a towbar a few years ago and it is handy but my jeep is getting less streetable so I would rather keep it on a trailer if I can.
