Truck Camper Forum _ General Discussion _ Better Choices For 3/4 Ton Long Beds?

Posted by: Rumi Jan 24 2019, 02:59 AM

I'm trying to find a good quality (used) TC that will fit my 2015 GMC 2500HD SLT Duramax diesel 4X4 long bed.
It seems that Lance units are a good overall value. So I've found an 865 model that fits the weight restrictions.
Their 850 model is rated at approx. 100 pds. over the top of the weight max.

And I know from reading that these weights are going to be the minimum of what is actually available per model. That with added features the weights go above the dry weights stated by the manufacturers.

The TC is going to be used by my wife and I so I really don't want a bare bones unit.
We will camp at state parks and travel with no water aboard.
Most of our trips will be within our home state of Ohio(45 minutes to 2 hr.) and include pulling a lightweight fishing boat.

First of all, is the Lance 865 a unit designed to be used both in short and long beds?

And secondly what other makes/models would you recommend for the 3/4 tons?

Thanks guys.

For what it's worth here's my set up and everything works great. Currently have a 2004 Ford F250SD 4x4 with a 6.0 diesel and have a 2019 Arctic Fox 990 on it. Rear end has been upgraded to a 1 ton along with 5100 Bilstein shocks, Air bags and rear anti sway bar so not by any means stock. There are quite a few other campers that are lighter but we wanted this one for the extra room. I have been to the weight scales and everything is below axle and tire ratings, over the gross rating but feel safe driving. Good luck in your search.
