I have a new used camper - 1985 Davlin -

Got it from the original owner, it's in great shape.

My issue is how to tie it down. All the research I do seems to show these tie down points on the outside edges of the camper which go to the torklift or happijack system

this trailer has eyebolts that are accessed from the inside of the cab. The old timer before me used turn buckles to attach the eye bolts to the cab. This seems weak? I would like to add some tie down rings to the jack stand mounts and attach to frame with tied downs for a bit more of security. Any thoughts on these older/smaller campers? it's 1400lbs empty.

Sounds like you have the right idea. The tie downs should be bolted to the camper frame somehow, the jacks are bolted to the frame so they should make a good solid tie down point.

Yes make sure the camper is tied to the trucks frame somehow, not the cab. Torklift frame mounted tiedowns are much stronger. the Happijack tie downs are only as strong as the sheet metal they're attached to.

Depending on how much exposed metal there is on the jack brackets, you could just drill a hole at the bottom of each bracket and use that for the tie down points. Its hard to tell from the picture how much metal extends past the camper body, but it looks like it might work.

Did some digging around and found that the eyebolts for my camper were secured using those nuts that press into to wood with those spike things? No backer plate or anything.

I'm going to change that and place some large steel backing plates and grade 8 type eyebolts in order to feel better about this 1500 pound load in the back of my truck. I am also adding 16GA square steel across the front exteneing to either side then bolt through with the eye botls. You wont see the square steel except for behind the toilet/cab access window.

I'm sure thee existing ones are fine now as the old timer before me whent everywhere with his camper with no issues but want to be safe as I paln on at least hitting some fire roads and at most going off road a bit.

I also removed the AC form the roof which made it top heavy. That thing was crazy heavy.

Im in Ventura California if anyone needs it.
