I purchased a new camper recently and after only three weeks of use, I see evidence of electrolysis on one of the outside aluminum panels.
The dealer has said he will contact the manufacturer to see if it will be covered by warranty. I'm presuming it will, but am worried that this is only the tip of the iceberg. A few questions for you guys: 1. Am a right to be concerned that if they fix this problem, it could surface elsewhere? If not in a years time, perhaps in 2 or 3 years when it's out of warranty? 2. What would cause this electrolysis and how can it be prevented? 3. What are my options in dealing with the RV dealer that I purchased it from? Ask for a full refund? Get another camper? Get them to fix the one affected area and pray it doesn't happen again? Thanks for any advice, R |

Is that a new camper ?
Sure don't look like it to me. . . . If it is a ''brand new camper'', I would take it back. ASAP! What is the wire for ? -------------------- . . . .

YES! what he said. I've owned truck campers since the 1960's (six at last count), all with aluminum skin, some with aluminum frame, some with wood frame. I've never experienced (nor seen on others) that kind of damage. If your camper was new (pristine) & all that happened in 3 weeks, something is badly wrong. I think I'd let the dealer/mfg'r take care of that. |

I think I'd let the dealer/mfg'r take care of that. It's a 2010 camper that's been on the lot for 2 years. It was never used, so essentially new. I bought it with the understanding that it is under full warranty. The dealer has sent the manufacturer a bill for $1700, but the manufacturer won't buy it. They are denying responsibility. Says it's a water leakage problem and it was the dealers responsibility to keep the seals in good shape. I can't imagine this kind of damage happening because of a water leakage in just 3 weeks. It's electrolysis and only one cause of electrolysis is water. The others are incompatible metals and electrical short somewhere. But the dealer says they will fix it. But now I'm not so sure it will be done thoroughly. Yes, I'm pissed off. So any recommendations you guys have about my options would be much appreciated. PS. The wire is for the electric jack. |

Hit them with everything you have, including counsel if you need to. BBB, get estimates from other dealers, small claims court and on and on.
But, I really think you need to get to find out EXACTLY how much water infiltration took place (no, no electrolysis) and then make a decision. |

No such thing as electrolysis on something like this.
This is water damage. And it is bad. That whole area of the camper is rotten. Make them take it back. Get legal help if necessary. You got screwed, bad. |
