Hi all, new to site and to cabover campers, I am sure this gets asked all the time but here it goes again.
I have 2013 Ram, no air bags yet (but will) I am a few days away from getting a Lance 820 2001 I know dry weight is around 2700lbs. Other than air bags what would you guys suggest? I plan on doing a big trip this summer ( last summer did 5200 miles) . Have ordered the happijac system. I also looked at the 815, just wondering what you think? Also what kind of milage can I expect? Last summer I got 23mpg. Thanks Chris |

The first priority is to determine the GVWR of your vehicle; this will guide you to the maximum weight you can carry, and therefore the range of campers you can be looking at. With a 3/4 ton truck you will be limited to the lighter campers. Look through this website; there is lots of advice and discussion about matching camper to truck.

We are driving a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD extended cab with Duramax/Allison. Our camper is a Bigfoot 1500 which weighs 2265 lbs which includes 34 gals of water and 2-20 lb propane tanks.... but not counting gear. No suspension mods other than Airlift bags which make quite a difference. It's heavy and we may a bit overweight, but it handles very well. We've put over 13,000 miles on the camper/truck and we consistently average 16.5 miles/gallon. The SuperChip programmer has helped by about 2 miles/gallon.
