Truck and Camper Setup: 1991 Four Winds

Hello Truck Camper Community,
I just bought my first camper (an 8' 1991 Four Winds) and am very excited to get the adventure started, however am finding that there is a little more to this than I expected. I will be putting the camper on a 1995 Ford F250 4x4, and am looking for any advice on how to attach these two.

Our adventures will take us from San Diego, Ca to Anchorage,Ak (hopefully) and everywhere in-between. Most likely this set up will be taken off road often and I have read that the Happijac system is preferred for this type of travel. What do you guys think? Also how difficult is the installation for this or similar systems? We are trying to save up some money and would prefer to do the installation ourselves. I feel pretty confident with figuring things out however I know almost nothing about trucks and campers.

Thanks for any advice!

Torklift x 3!!!!!! my TC will head toward 6000 lbs fully loaded out.

Let me suggest: Tractor Supply has 4 ft w x every how long you want (comes on a roll, just tell them how long your bed is) ¾ in horse mat made from shredded tires. I would get it, lay in your bed ( no need to glue or screw down, its not going anywhere as it fairly heavy) and set your camper down on it, save wear on the bed, easy on the camper as it absorbs some of the bumps and does not fade, been running mine 5 years.

Truck and Camper Setup: 2008 F350, 2015 Arctic Fox 990. I use torklifts on the front and bumper buttons on the rear, Firestone brand manually inflated airbags, and a rubber mat between the truck bed and camper.

I would also like to add that a rubber bed mat ($125-$150) will make a huge difference in preventing any slipping.

Favorite Truck Camper(s): Currently own a Palomino pop-up slide-in
Type and Brand of Truck(s) Owned: 2008 Ford F-350 4x4 Super Cab
Type of Tiedowns used: Torklift
Truck and Camper Setup: 2008 F-350 Supercab 4x4 with Firestone airbags, Bilstein shocks, a 2005 Palomino Bronco 1500 Softside camper, and Torklift tiedowns. So far, we've added an additional 4' long by 14" high cabinet for additional storage on top of the table seat area, a 40 gallon water tank in place of the OEM 16 gallon tank, moved the dual Volvo batteries outside, and replaced the nonworking stereo with a new Elite system.

I also looked at Happijac but didn't like the idea of drilling holes in my bed and having exposed pieces in the bed when the camper's off. If you're looking to keep the rig for a long time and aren't mounting the camper permanently, the Torklift is the way to go. I installed mine in under an hour (all 4 corners), it bolts securely to the frame, and is completely out of the way when not being used. Well worth the investment.
