QUOTE(KY_Campers @ Jun 27 2010, 08:03 AM)
I was wondering if anyone has used a ''cover'' like this one?

''Truck Camper Cover''... From Northern Tool

I know a guy that just used a regular tarp over his for the winter, and when spring came.... He took it off and the ''regular tarp'' was causing a lot of ''condensation'' inside the camper.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have used covers for years. I used ADCO covers from Camping World for the first three years. These covers were about $250.00 and lasted 1 year a piece. These covers come with a 2-year warranty but ADCO always had a reason or 2 not to replace them. I finally bought a CAL MARK cover about 3 years ago and have had no tears or holes. The fabric is made of the Sunbrella fabric that can withstand the California Sun. The cover is reinforced with 1â???? webbing to distribute the weight of the sides. This cover comes with a 6-year warranty. The success of having a cover last is to keep it tight by wrapping it with rope or webbing and also using clamps to keep the cover tight so the wind will not rub the cover against the camper, which causes the tearing. I have not used the cover from Northern tools but I hope this response will help in your decision.

QUOTE(WesGPS @ Jun 23 2010, 06:01 PM)
I will soon be purchasing a truck camper to go on my Dodge Heavy Duty 4X4 2500 Short Box. Probably a Lance 815.

While visiting Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden, CO I ask if there were any special rules pertaining to truck campers. I was told by one of the senior staff that the only special rule they had as far as truck campers were concerned was that they did not allow customers to remove the camper from the truck.

I inquired why this kind of rule was enforced and was told they were afraid of blow-overs when one was sitting up high on the struts. I did not ask if the rule was flexible enough to not be in effect if the camper was lowered down all the way. My feeling is that it was a hard and fast rule.

Though I plan to Boondock quite a lot, this kind of rule sort of shoots down my plan of unloading at an RV park occasionally so that I can use my truck to explore the area without having the camper aboard.

Does anyone know if this kind of rule is a common rule in effect at a lot of RV parks?

Your responses / comments will be appreciated.

I went to a privately owned camp ground in Mission Bay(San Diego CA) to go to Sea World and disconnected the truck and lowered the Lance to the ground. When I came back I had a nasty gram left by security to come see them immediately after returning. I was told that the reason they do not allow campers to be unloaded was that if I abandon my truck camper at the park that they had no way of removing the camper from the spot. I left the next day never to return.

Mike,

Glad it worked out for you. Like I stated before, make sure the tires have at least an E rating. Roadmaster rear sway bars work great for the cross winds. Good luck.

Newbie here, My wife and myself decided to get back in the camping thing, use to have a class C but decided that a TC would suite us better this time around. I found a 01 chevy 2500 HD Duramax long bed sw(ext.cab) with 118 k on her. I've purchased Air Ride Air bags, Rancho 9000 shocks and the Happijac tie system.I know it's going to be a heavy load but I've found a 02'Lance 1130 (11'6")in my price range. What are ya'lls thoughts about a 1130 on a 2500 HD?

I agree with mh45472 that truck campers should be on duallys for stability. But not all people have duallys and may not be able to buy one just for their campers. I'm sure your truck will have plenty of power with the Duramax. In terms of suspension you already have the air bags. Make sure your tires are E rated at the least. You might want to think about anti-sway bars. You may have the factory sway bars but after market larger diameter sway bars will help with the sway. A rear trac bar will help with the rear axel from moving side to side which adds to the loose feeling. At 2800 lbs. dry you will have to think about how much weight you add to your camper. Good luck.

My main problem is the camper moves around on he jacks. One jack will kick out causing the camper to move back and forth as I raise or lift.

I think with the corner mounted jacks I wouldn't have this problem. Also your idea with only turning two times would help keep them level.

Any good company I could order from? Attwood seems like the better unit. Anyone have longer jacks for lifts trucks?

Thanks for the help.

I have a F-250 with a 4" lift. The bottom of my jacks have a 4" extention built by the prior owner. It looks like the material they make plastic cutting boards with. It measures 6' diameter bolted to the bottom of the jacks with the heads of the bolts counter sunk. This system allows me to extend the jacks high enough to load on the bed. I believe he fabbed it himself. This system allows me not to have to carry heavy blocks with me every where I go. Hope this helps a little. Bill Noda

There was nothing wrong with the package.  When we were shopping for a 5th wheel, we were looking at a max. 34 footer.  We ended up with a 38 footer which exceeded the spring capacity of my truck.  I mighta-coulda gone the air bag route but I was able to get all my money back on the tires and got a better deal on a dually than we ever expected, (never should've even gone looking).  I'll have to admit there are times I wish I still had the SRW.

I test drove some 5th wheels, 1 with the OEM wheels/tires and 2 with the 19.5's.  The difference in the stability was amazing.  I think the main difference was less sidewall flex.  The ability to air up to 110 psi, 17/32 tread depth and 14 ply tires were added benifits, in my opinion.

I'm no authority on this stuff but I wouldn't hesitate to run the same package again.

Thanks for the reply, I know now tht I am going in the right direction with the 19.5 wheels.

[attachmentid=67]FOR SALE - Rickson 19.5" x 6.75" x 8 lug steel wheels.  They were ordered to fit a GMC 2500/3500 HD Single Rear Wheel.  They have correct hub bore and back spacing to fit 225/70R19.5" tires in standard wheel wells.  They will also fit some Dodge 2500/3500 SRW trucks.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with these wheels.  They have less than 250 miles on them.  The tires are not included in this sale.  There are 3 TPMS transmitters included.  Wheels are located in Forney, Texas.  You can pick them up or I can ship UPS at freight cost + $10/wheel for packaging and insurance.  You can calculate shipping costs at UPS.com by putting in your Zip.  Wheels weigh an estimated 65 lbs. each.  Price for all 4 wheels  is $800.  Tires are NOT included in the price.  They were returned.

Just wondering why you are selling the wheels and returning the tires? I was looking into upgrading to 19.5 wheels on a SRW Ford Super duty. Was there anything wrong with the package or the ride of your truck? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone with a lifted 08' F250 is using it with a truck camper? I was planning on getting a 4.5-6 in lift for my truck, but was able to get a great deal on the camper, and now I wonder if getting the lift is out due to the truck being too high(higher center of gravity). Any pics would be great, as well as experiences, cautions, considerations. Thanks!

I have a 02 F250 crewcab LB with a 4" lift and 35" tires with a 04 Lance Lite 1025. The truck is a little top heavy at times. You're going to have to drive carefully. One problem you may encounter is that the jacks will not be able to jack the camper high enough to clear the bed without adding blocks below the jacks. I bought my Lance from a guy that had the same lift as I did and he mounted round 4" extentions to the bottom of the jacks. Looks like it came from the factory. I have the stock sway bars on the truck and was thinking about after market(bigger diameter) sway bars front and back. The Toyo tires also has an E weight rating to cope with the weight of the camper. Hope this might help you decide.[attachmentid=73]
