I would like to run an air conditioner with my Honda 2000i (inverter model with the 30 A plug- puts out 13.3 A). Does anyone have a recommendation on what btu will it run without burning either the air conditioner or the generator up?

The Coleman Mach3 PS (power saver) model would work with your generator. It will cool using 1440W. It does use more power if you want to heat with it.

Here's the user manual:

I'm sure there's other models out there that will work too.

Do you think that 13,500 is necessary to cool a 8 ft hard side camper? Would I be as well served by a lower profile (lighter) model that is 9,000 btu, or would you stick with 13,500 figuring more is better?

That depends on how well your camper is insulated, how hot it is outside and are you in the sun or not. You may find a 9000BTU unit adequate but depending on the circumstances you may not.

Here's a 9200BTU unit. Note that it uses almost as much power (1225W to 1450W) as the 13500BTU unit (1440W).

Also, the 13500BTU unit is cheaper than the 9200BTU unit. So if it were me I'd buy the 13500BTU unit.

Ignoring pricing for the moment.

9000 BTUs is a lesser load, and I've talk to folks that them me it works great with a TC and runs off a Honda EU2000i no problems. Another consideration is cycling time. A bigger AC will cycle less frequently, which is annoying and doesn't do as good a job removing humidity (I'm told). I went through the same steps you are going through and decide on the Polar Cub listed below.

Considering all the points mentioned above almost covers everything that should be taken into consideration about installation and does very well layout the advantages and dis advantages of both.
